Brewster

The amount of injuries has been here for years now.

I fully expected the injuries to stop when Wilder come back but they have continued at the exact same rate.

We are either dreadfully unfit from a poor pre season or it’s the medical team or it is the training facilities.
I don't think it's a case of Brewster being unfit, its more to do with his training and strengthening regime, it's clear for everyone to see that it's not working for him.
I hope that the so called physios at the lane are actually clued up and are looking for answers away from his hamstrings as to why it keeps reoccurring as it doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

God knows where his thoughts must be at now. Hope he doesn't come on here and read some of the bile from so called Blades in this thread.

If worst comes to worst though he's still a young lad with a good head on his shoulders and he'll be alright.

At some point it becomes like having a ghost in the squad. Everyone knows he's leaving next summer.

I think a sensible parting of the ways, as long as he agrees would be best for all involved. If he says no, you treat his injuries and watch him go next June anyway

If that's the case, Shirecliffe must be like a haunted house at the moment, most of them will be off in a few months.

Should we have shoved O'Connell out the door sooner?

I don't see the benefit in treating a popular player without any compassion. Totally hypothetical (and appreciate it's a one-off v recurrent problems) but if we could've saved money by releasing Bash after his injury, would you have done that?

I'm not advocating forcing him out. I said "with his agreement".

JOC had the mistreatment of an injury thing hanging over him. If the club had paid up his last year with his agreement I'd have had no issues.

Not sure what point you're trying to make with Bash. Club legend, mid 30s, last year of his deal. There's barely any comparisons between those 2 and Brewster other than injuries

YorkBlade interview with Kabba comes to mind. Kabba admits his body was maybe not upto to rigours of the game and why he had so many injuries through out his career.
At 18.16 mins in.

Interesting listening to that from 18 mins to 23 mins. As he says the modern premier league player needs to be a top athlete and I do wonder if the modern game is too demanding on the body. I lose count of the games on MOTD where there's talk of a team having been through an injury crisis - I usually tut to myself and think they rarely mention the injuries at SU.

My point is that if you do something that the players would see as being out of order, like trying to push out an injured player, it would affect morale.

Appreciate you're saying with Brewster's agreement but there are plenty of others who just seem to want to boot him out of the club.

We pay shit money and we have shit facilities, I think we need to do everything we can to make United look like a place where you'll be well coached and well looked after.

Gutted for the lad. Really wanted him to be a success. If we're keeping him, he needs to go to some Harley Street level specialist and get the underlying issues addressed once and for all. Clearly we're incapable of sorting him in-house.

I just can't get my head around how this is constantly happening to us.

I really feel sorry for Brewster, he doesn't deserve this. He didn't decide the price tag he just wanted to come to us and play football and score goals. His attitude has been nothing other than first class, unfortunately it seems his body is not up to it but again that is not his fault.

Just cause he cost loads everyone on here treating him like a cunt staying rip up his contract etc bit of a prick thing to say imo. I am absolutely gutted for the lad as I had hoped he had finally turned a corner

If we was going to make any harsh decisions which could effect morale now would be the ideal time seeing as morale is low as can be.

If there was investment coming on the off pitch stuff then I'd agree. I'm just not sure another season of United trying to get a player fit and failing (can only go on the evidence) will help either parties reputations. Plus, we've got other players we need to give game time to. Harsh, but he's not going to be here in 25/26.
However, I do think the message from above, whenever he's fit will be "£23m, play him", regardless of anything else

Sometimes a player just finds the right club/medical team and they click. I hope RB finds that somewhere but I'm pretty confident it's not here.

Concerning that both he and RND are injured again with the same issue within a month or two of returning to football. RND was his other hamstring as well.

I was going to start up a thread with my current thoughts re: brewster, but then saw the existence of this one.

He's been somewhat of a frustrating one at the lane during his time with us, but a great deal of it has been down to injuries that are completely out of his hands as we all know.

Never the less I still want to praise his professional conduct and dedication.

He's had a rough ride without a doubt due to set back after set back and at such a young age too. It could have been extrenely easy for him to go off the rails away from the pitch and go into some irresponsible, self-dedtruct mode. You see it time and time agaim in the modern game after all....

But Brewster is still a testiment to himself. With every knock seems to have come a greater determination. He has worked his socks off time and time again to get over his set backs and get back to doing what he loves to do. You can't knock him in the slightest, he's been an absolute model professional.

But it isn't just his dedication to the sport, it is an obvious dedication to the club and it's fans as well. I met up with my brother and nieces last season and my niece wanted to head round to the player entrance to see the players close up.... Some of the players turned up and quickly signed, smiled and entered the ground. But Brewster was different, laughing and joking and high fiving his way down the line of fans. Taking particular time to acknowledge each of the young fan base... to talk to time and make their day. In getting to my niece she asked if he could sign her shirt and he instantly made it more personal asking her name and what she thought the score would be. He then offered her the opportunity to have a photo with him, in which she instantly accepted and he made her day.... All in all the perfect fan experience and a credit to himself.

The above isn't isolated, you hear and see it all the time. He's regularly pitch side with fans, signing stuff and talking away.

He's never once turned his back on the club or shirked his resposnsibilities and he stays 100% determined to the cause. I too have doubted his ability in the past but I am still 100% behind him and want him to come good with Sheffield United Football Club.... With his work rate and determination, I still believe in him completely. How far he has come so far is a testiment to himself as I keep saying and on that trajectory, who are we to right him off yet?

In a just world we would successfully sue Liverpool for selling us this lad

Well he has been injured on and off since the day he arrived and under different managers.

I'd be asking questions of Liverpool because he had a few injuries with them. We can do due diligence at our end but it always makes you think was some information withheld when we signed him.

“There’s a player in there”

I agree with this, it’s a lower league headless chicken at best.

“His performance against Wolves

26 of the finest touches I’ve ever seen in a Blades shirt, he could have been season changing!

£23m attitude, 23p luck, 0.23p hamstrings

Gutted for the kid. I genuinely believe there's a really good player in there if he could maintain fitness.

This many similar breakdowns though in his early to mid 20s makes you think his career is at best very limited now.

Some sad stories at our club recently.

God I hate this season. Every glimpse of something positive has been followed by more misery. Brewster didn't set his fee, got wages great for United but that's not saying much. I genuinely hoped he could finish the season getting games and doing well. The footballing Gods can fuck right off. Along with some of the nasty buggers on here who could do with just a fraction of empathy for a player whose body has let him down through no fault of his own.

Feel very sorry for the lad. Unfortunately his body can’t sustain top level football. It’s also unfortunate for us he has another year, as at least we could have cut losses in June.

But we are the masters of unfortunate.

Devastating for him. But we really can't be carrying him around any longer, investing any more time and hope in him

He's been an astonishing waste of money for us..... I can't think of anything remotely comparable, for us or even for any other club of our sort of level

If he's as good as done now at least he will have earned something like what his talent would justify from football. Take the injuries out and he'd at least be a good championship striker. Would have just been nice if he could have made the money at a different club

It’s happening at other clubs …there’s no give in the modern pitches maybe that should be looked at

Regrettably… Brewster will probably go down as just about the worst value for money signing in Premier League history.
