He signed for Cardiff as a Premier league club and was supposedly on £25k per week and came to us on £20k.

That is still BIG money for the Championship and Burton will only be paying a part of that, with us picking up the rest.

Agreed he is very much a Championship quality player but given how KF has come on, I'm not sure how we'd use him. For that reason it would probably be a 'thanks for the good times under Clough' , but I'd move him on.

I can't understand some of the snidey digs at him. Fair enough he wants to play for Clough but my understanding was it us who encouraged him to go and not him pushing for a move.
I don't believe he's on that much and I've seen nothing to support that view.

I would welcome back the John Brayford that we had at the start, but only if he fits into Wilders plans and budget.

He wasn't on that much, and we weren't paying anything like the salary quoted.
He was on big bucks in the prem, but took a 50% cut on relegation.

He took a further cut to come here.

Now I was once told the figures when he was on loan. At that time I was told that he had taken a huge cut to come to us, as Cardiff weren't prepared to accept what United could afford to pay. So Brayford just opted to allow the rest to go.
I sadly can't remember the exact numbers involved because they were from a non blade friend (Leeds fan actually with a lot of good contacts in the game who was very good friends with a then board member) who I saw regularly back then, but I recall it was significantly less than 10k a week as I was very surprised at the time. Back then, I was also told there was no way we would get him permanent until promotion.
When he came permanently we did pay more, but the deal was pushed by the Saudi side of the board as they hoped his arrival would have the same uplifting effect he did first time. Clough had made plans to manage without...i.e. Freeman, but wasn't going to turn it down when the club pushed the boat out to get him.

It used to be nice having a bit of insider stuff.....sadly no more.

The whole brayford debate rests on where he wants to be! Wilder wont want a player who isnt 100% on board. Bray is currently closer to home and his family playing for the manager he wants to play for. Money isnt his main focus he has already proved that! We might get him back preseason but he will be back at burton or forrest with cloughy after the next transfer window.... it might have been different if burton had gone down but burton could afford 500k for him, they paid that for mcfadz and have another years championship revenue now.

But not 10k p/w+ for squad players.

You're a bit behind the times. Crap like Collins & Doyle were on this 6 years ago. Things have gone up a bit since then and £10k pw is peanuts now for a decent player in the Championship.

Hearsay on Brayford's wages seems to be tainting people's opinions. I would think any transfer fee we would get for him would be minimal. So bearing in mind the transfer fees, agent fees and any other fees, I would doubt we could bring in anybody decent who would cost less in total.

'The Beard' has always shown himself to be an honorable man. He has demonstrated that playing football is his top priority and money comes way down the list. I think that if Brayford feels he wants to come back and fight for his place at the Lane and CW and AK feel he can strengthen the squad sufficiently then brilliant. If not then I would wish him all the best for the future.

Daily Mail (I know sorry) had him down as being on 18k at Cardiff, Ive heard and read the figure of 10k a number of times with regards his Blades contract.Biggs stated at the time of him moving to Burton we were subsidising his wages, these figures do seem to make sense.

But not for a squad player, for Sheffield United, at this moment in time.

We stupidly handed out big contracts to those players but we've cut back a lot since then. It's not like that was the going rate for players like Collins and Doyle back then either, we overpaid out of desperation.

I think you'll find Brayford will be more than a squad player next season. We'll see.

Don't think so. He can't play RWB anymore, and I think Wilder will want someone very different to him at RCB, someone physically good and more aggressive.

I don't even expect him to be here. We can get better value than him.

He'll be attacking full back in a back four.

He is not on 20k a week that is nonsense. 10k is the more realistic figure.

I still find it puzzling that some people actually want to get rid of a proven championship quality player purely because we sent him on loan for financial reasons. There is no logic to it he is a quality player.

did we send

him or did he want to leave?? this is the crux of the decision for me.. if the former then he can do one

It really is funny on here sometimes, 12k a week on a backup defender who's more bothered about his whole persona than the teams. If the rest of the fans had of revered the players a little differently things might look a little different, maybe like this year for example.

More bothered about his persona than the team? What is this based on?

He isn't on social media, he took a huge paycut to come down the leagues to join us, and by all accounts is a model professional and has just come runner up in a championship teams POTY along with being in the championship team of the week.

Yeah. Lets get rid. He sounds a bad egg.

Can you explain his piss poor, disinterested performances at the start of this season then? Because that came across unprofessional.

If he wants to stay here then he needs to a leaf out of his mate Paul Coutts book and knuckle down and actually perform and want to play for a manager that isn't Nigel Clough.

I'm not totally against him coming back, I think he'd be a decent option at RCB and would link well with Coutts and Freeman, but he needs to get his act together because his showing at the beginning of this season was pathetic.

Second time Brayfords ego/persona has been used as a stick to beat him with. As you say, based on nothing that's out there.

Jack O'Connell was on par with Brayford for the first few games.

Just sayin.

We had a full season of a seemingly disinterested piss poor performances from Coutts. Did you suggest he be shunted out because of that? A full season.

Agreed. But Jack stuck around and plugged away and has become as much a fan favourite as Brayford was first time around. Whilst John went back to uncle Nigel as quickly as he could.

No, but to be fair I was one of the very few it seems who actually thought Coutts was one of the very few players to come out of last season with any credit IMO. I thought he played quite well.

I thought he looked a great player with a good touch but he hid last season (he wasn't alone in that).

Based on all the home games and a few aways that I saw, I can't believe anyone could say he came out 'with credit'.

You haven't gone to one of those regression psychiatrists have you?

Played well? He played exactly how you described Brayford. If Wilder hadn't given him a chance he'd have been gone.

He's had a great season this time, which he needed to have.

If he came back it would be to do Jake Wrights job in the back four his wingback days are over and Basham is our RCB going forward. Even Brayford doesnt move him or Freeman imo

No, but I did miss a lot of games at the tail end of the season I must admit.

I just saw him as a clearly talented an able player, playing in a team with no identity and lacking leadership.

I do agree, as I said in another post I thought he looked a talent last season in a really poor team.

And I'm not saying it's over for Brayford, just that he really needs to knuckle down when he comes back.

That wasn't JB's fault, CW saw the opportunity to free up a fair chunk of wages, which then allowed us to bring in a fair few players. It was a good move all round.

JB went, and can come back, with his head held high.

As was reported at the time but is now remembered as Brayford running home to Daddy Clough.
