I agree.

Brayford is an investment in the future.

He is not some free agent signing that will do a job in this league and if we get promoted will become surplus to requirements.

Agree 100% Bladesman. I think that having someone like Brayford on board also acts like a talisman for attracting other players in future. The points stack up in favour of signing Brayford, he'll strengthen us this coming season, he already knows the club and what's expected of him, so no bedding in period, and the options his game offers makes him as good as anything at this level.

If we can sign Brayford, why would you not want to sign a championship class full back?

(Lights blue touch paper) Are we in danger of building Brayford up into something he isn't ?

A bit like players who are injured or not getting a game or we should have signed,

Good point Flletu.

The ghost of Jon Harley still remains.

That said, if a deal could be made what a boost for everyone- incl the man himself- just before the season starts.

Or the Great Bruno Ribeiro

Q.....What happens when a Sheffield United player is on wages that the club want off the books?

A.....He is offloaded on the cheap to get off the wage bill.

It is not just about the transfer fee, Cardiff will take into account his wages being saved and then being available to be used for a player that they do want.

Great point.

Played another 45 mins for Cardiff yesterday in a pre season friendly

I think that him playing for Cardiff in a few warm up games means anything...

I mean we played Higginbotham a good few times last year , then sold him to Chester

Hope he's playing like a twat in those friendlies!...
On the other hand I feel like goals get you out of this division. I love Maguire and the beard but I think you can get away with a "good" defense in this league rather than an elite one-as long as you've got 1-2 players who will score you the goals

Rumours of a £2m bid are doing the rounds on Twitter atm.

No reliable HP yet though.

I doubt the fee would be as high as 2mill they bought him for 1.5 and loaned him out. The problem might be that Cardiff's new manager will need him in the first team

As Coops says, £2M for a right back, in League 1, ridiculous.

Why is it? I thought everybody agreed that we should push the boat out for this bloke. If we can get Brayford in with the Maguire money then that is a great bit of business. John Brayford is head and shoulders above what is in this division and if we have the chance to purchase him then we shouldn't think twice about doing so.

Look at it another way.

Maguire goes for £2m and with that money we could bring in Butler, Alcock, Mcgahey & Brayford. I think that is a fantastic bit of business.

2m for a right back is a bit silly but you can't put a price on a talisman.

Brayford as a player is worth £1m in my opinion. However he is held in such high regard by our fans that it's worth another 500k on top of that for the feel-good factor his arrival would bring. I also think he might help shift a few hundred more season tickets and shirts. Anything more than £1.5m however is too high.

£2million is excessive....if he does arrive for a figure near that though, I expect that he'll be the guy that could displace Doyle as captain after Cloughs interview yesterday
