Transfer fee may well be within our reach but the lad is in 30k a week at Cardiff, I'd be amazed if he was to give that up
It's 18k - thats what that loon Vincent Tan quoted when he slated him and Mackay earlier this season - but even so, still a lot of money.

If it is correct that he wants to return to play for Clough, then that's three quarters of the battle

It gives fans reason to be optimistic that should he become available, he'll head our way

The Beard and a decent striker would cap off very nicely what's been up to now a productive close season :)

Compared with what we've had to put up with in many, many close seasons past, I think that calling this close season productive is a huge understatement! ;)

I've been very pleased with business so far

In today's market I'd be amazed if Brayford could command that sort of wage anywhere, he is after all a 3rd choice at Cardiff. Maybe yes in the Premiership but he is not a Premiership player he certainly would not get that at any other Championship club. Soon Cardiff will have to cut their wage bill, Brayford needs 1st team football the question is how much he wants it and how much he is willing to take as wages. You just never know.
This was my thoughts but a friend who works for the club behind scenes was told by Clough at the end of season party that he was getting 30k a week so wouldn't be coming. Assuming this 30k involves win/goal/appearance bonuses etc. No reason to no believe her due to past information being spot on.

Can't imagine he'd be eligible for many bonuses as he's only made 2 league appearances for Cardiff!

Much as I like Brayford I would rather spend the money on a Striker

There is no way that Brayford is on £30k per week at Cardiff !!
The only defenders on that sort of money are at the to 10 Premiership Clubs, I would surmise.
My guess would be more like £13k pw .......

Seen that shreds1975 has tweeted that Cardiff RB McNaughton has re-signed for Bolton which makes one less at RB with the ex ManU lad and the new Cov lad Christie the competition for Brayford. Does that put doubt on Ole letting Brayford go?
For now?

Yep,metal is right kenilworth, christie is at Derby, that is why i thought we had a really good chance of getting freeman.I don't think Brayford is going anywhere soon though.

We will let you off kenilworth,as you are not normally wrong:rolleyes::D
Crikey Wizzers. You are far more perceptive than I first envisaged ;)

It's a rarity so best tag it for future reference :D

I normally rely on Dazzler to jog my long term memry but I've had to rely on metalblade this time as the great pretender. I blame fatigue and Old Speckled Hen.

Off to strangle the chicken

I can't imagine he's on anything like £30k p.w. Like transfer fees, it'll be along the lines of OTE or potentially £30k p.w. Like if 'arry goes it'll be 'rising to £2m.' Yeah, if he's made European Footballer of the Year...

Whatever JB is on, trying to get near to it will break our wages structure and lead to possible dissent in the ranks.

JB must also be realistic, that was then and this is now. Also, he could be on unrealistic earnings as Malky McKay did like to piss Vincent Tan's money away.

Not giving up on JB just yet, but his spell with us could be one of those Michael Brown-esque, never-to-be-repeated-in-his-lifetime moments.

There's plenty more beards in the sea.

(Lights blue touch paper) Are we in danger of building Brayford up into something he isn't ?

A bit like players who are injured or not getting a game or we should have signed, I think he's been built up to one of the best players to grace the turf at BDTBL which might be a tad over the top. All the 'beard' business has created a cult which seems to have got out of hand IMO. Great player for this level, no doubt but should we break the bank for him and undo a lot of the (financial) work that has been done since the days of Robson etc ?

Let's not forget, his dodgy header for a corner at Wembley got them back in the game ;)

Good point Flletu.

The ghost of Jon Harley still remains.

That said, if a deal could be made what a boost for everyone- incl the man himself- just before the season starts.

No, not getting carried away. Brayford contributed massively to lifting our season and is a cracking player.

Sure we need a striker, but for me Brayford is one of the final pieces of the jigsaw and would be a major boost for the squad, Clough and the fans if we got him back.

He loves the club, we love him and he's a fantastic player. Get him back

Don't doubt all of that, I just think everything surrounding him is building him up a tad too much. He's not the be all and end all nor should we break the bank when we could probably get someone to 'do a job' much more cheaply and as you say, a striker is where we need to probably spend big. If we can do a deal then fine :)

How many would be devastated if he came back 'beardless' ;)

Another player could no doubt be brought in cheaper to do an adequate job but it's not just what brayford brought to the club as a player it is also the pyschological good feeling and the togetherness he brought the club. He's become a cult figure at the club and the last player i think who fans took to their hearts like this was probably Brian Deane.

I think having Freeman instead wouldn't do our promotion hopes very much harm at all. I'd much rather have Harry than Brayford.

If this point has been made already then apologies, but I think one of several benefits of buying Brayford is that he'd be more than capable at Championship level, so we'd already have saved a substantial fee on a player equipped for that level. Reports are that Cardiff are asking £750K, what we'd get in return is a player who'd be a fixture (barring loss of form or injury) in the first team for the next two or three seasons. An investment now, in someone whose all-round qualities are head and shoulders above any other defender we have, makes complete sense, in terms of talent and financial investment. As for the 'either or' argument, the fact that Clough has stated that he wants a forward, plus he's like a dog with a bone where Brayford's concerned, should tell everyone that he'll take both if the situation allows for this.

I agree.

Brayford is an investment in the future.

He is not some free agent signing that will do a job in this league and if we get promoted will become surplus to requirements.
