Bramall Lane roof

One of the issues regarding the Bramall Lane stand, is the proximity to the main road. Any structural work would require closing the footpath if not the road itself.

Though we can't blame the club for this so it's hardly worthy of mention.

I suppose it’s less obvious if they got builders or surveyors in to inspect each stand. I still don’t understand the timing or comment of Bettis on this I.e. we check at the start of each season. They then find they need a summer to rectify. This is pretty amateurish. Radio Sheffield should have picked this up; Wht wasn’t it done straight after the last home game? You then had a good few months to fix it. All seems anofher happy convenience to kick down the road the spending of any cash.
The club do have to conduct inspections of the stadium structure at least once every 12 months and report to the Council as part of the requirements for our annual safety certificate, and it’ll be likely this regular process that flagged the issue. If that occurred at the end of last season, it might not have been as simple to get it all done in the summer – if as Bettis suggested it’s a sizeable bit of work, and not a simple job, that might not have been easily scheduled in with the contractor – I’m speculating here, but I know from something simple enough in comparison like installing the rails for the safe standing that this needed a good few months lead in time.

There is mention of the works in this season’s safety certificate (“remedial works to the Bramall Lane Stand roof and truss”) and that there is an agreed schedule for the works. Nothing about any imposed restriction on the area capacity is mentioned, other than the Council reserving the right to close it if it’s deemed unsafe, but it might be that the club has taken that independently based on the structural engineers’ advice.

I hope it’s back to being fully open again soon, as it’s a sad sight to see it empty.

The stand not being available is humiliation and upsetting. Every game it’s not available I am not even bothered about the game as I just think what’s the point? The illusion of football is that bramall lane is the Mecca of what we love, and I look at that stand from the family stand and instantly can’t be bothered with the game. I hate it all. We had it open in Adkins league 1 days so why not now, I despise football right now, money is THE MOST IMPORTANT THING, not us. Football is dying and as a dad of a son who’s 18 months old who I want to grow up loving the magic of football it breaks my heart

Mate it failed a structural inspection so the club has no choice. Not only that it cant be repaired as was due to changes to building regs apparently. So not a straight forward job. I can honestly see all the upper supports having to come out and be replaced with a different design and type.

The irony of the "Forged in Steel" sign is not lost on me. Anyway, can something be forged IN steel?

Bettis said in his RS interview that we could open it up today but have opted not to as we "aren't filling the ground".

Big queues to get in the SS today could be related. I think Linz missed KO.

There could be something in the theory that our owners are reluctant to pay the cost of repair.

Also said the work was out to tender. I sit in the SS and had no problem with queues at all, but I get there early ish so I can quaff a pie and a pint.

Bettis’s comment this week about being in no rush due to the crowds we’re getting sums up our ambition as a club. How about we spin it the other way around and have our tickets “sales” office actually sell some match day tickets and have the ambition to pack out the upper tier every week.
Over 27k there yesterday yet the BLUT remains closed.

I'd ask Bettis a) why close it now when it's never been regularly closed for league games for over 50 yet, even when we were getting 12k in the 80's? b) who's decision was it, and does this decision have the support of playing staff? b) this is exactly the type of decision that the FAB should be involved in. What input came from the FAB and ordinary fans and c) is the plan to keep it closed all season? If now, when will it open?

Apart from all that, the sun now shines in my eyes in the John Street stand through the gap in the roof. I demand they get it sorted.

If your think your house roof might need abit of attention before winter and the roofer tells you its a bigger job so best to wait until summer should you been ashamed , embarrassed and apologise for being a terrible home owner?

Just a thought.

We'd be getting bigger crowds for some games if it was open. The vast majority of available seats remaining yesterday were on the left flank of the Kop with its awful views.

Yes, if you evicted the family living there and left it empty - despite the fact that the family planned to take an extended vacation in summer and the repairs could easily wait.

Just a thought.

It's a shame that it is closed. Selfishly, it was my stand of choice since it was re-opened to home fans. My attendance had dropped a bit in recent seasons anyway and I haven't been yet this season as a consequence of it being closed. But if there are any H&S concerns, any whatsoever, it stays shut until they are fully addressed. End of.

Let's not find ourselves in a situation like that lot over the city, where they found out their glorious leader had allowed them and their families to sit under a roof that hadn't been maintained properly.

Yes, because you should at least have minor work done so that you can keep using your whole home over the winter, as closing off one room of your house while leaving a hole in the roof could lead to other damage.

The last bit is supposition tbf.

In the analogy its a bit of the house you dont need, and its actually your choice not to use it .

I get where you and Dkc are coming from but its just a bit unfortunate in reality .

If the roof is unsafe, why is it not unsafe for those on the lower tier who are under the same roof? Is it just that they have longer to get out of the way when it falls down than anyone on the top tier?

Well it's safe now because it's no longer there. Bettis said they could safely reopen it today (with no roof) but choose not to because of dwindling crowds and we'd get wet. They just need to get on with putting a new roof on it

Should be number 1 priority when the season ends ,no excuses .would have been good if he had gone into more detail about the engineering problems and the methods of corrective work . He was pretty vague about it .

There was quite a few empty seats on the South Stand Yesterday(kop side) but I guess those were season ticket holders that didn't go yesterday.

Can we at least in the meantime fix the S in the seating lettering if all of us on the Kop are going to be staring straight at it for the rest of the season? It’s bugged me since they did it, and for whatever reason wasn’t sorted when they added the black seats. Looks more like a registration plate with BLADE5 on it than BLADES. The bottom 7 rows of the S need shifting one seat to the left. Gerrit sorted.

It’s tinpot and a good indicator of a club run by half hearted foreign owners. Very Blackburn Rovers

That IS the issue, from what I’m told,it all to be rectified from inside the ground,H and Safety certification is hugely different from years ago.Closing B.lane is a non issue as of the cost, council, rerouting. I’ve been a critic of it,but it makes sense from a cost, safety advice.

But we do need it as many members of the family won't bother to visit if the only space for them is cramped in an uncomfortable spot
