I completely forgot about that I played a game in there too. It was where the south side of the hotel is now.
The building highlighted yellow below.

1-1 draw in May 1977. Edwards scored for us. Yes, Chico Hamilton missed a penalty.Chico Hamilton blasted a penalty over the bar in the late seventies, which we always joked had 'hit the clock'. I'm pretty sure it cleared the lower tier. It was a night match and I think it ended 0-0? Silent Blade ?

No clock or adverts on BLUT when we played Oxford in September 1968I am open to correction but l think the bramall lane clock is the original one installed when the stand was built in 1966, l first went to the lane in 1968. Before the south stand was built the clocks position was directly behind the goal and in the centre of same. Due to building of the family stand the whole pitch was moved towards the south stand, therefore the clocks position is no longer directly behind the goal

Pavilion in 1971The green one on the south stand facade. Apparently it went missing after the pavilion demolition, and was later about to be scrapped until it was saved by a fella who recognised it. Looks like it lost a few pinnacles along the way. Its a shame the pavilion went...

MillwallWho against?
Between the Bramall Lane stand and the entrance to the south stand was the last remaining steps of the cricket terrace. Visible until a few years ago when the corner stand was built.

Am quite sure it was in the 1970s and then it was taken off for the electronic scoreboard and then the clock was back on some years later. Will keep tryingAs the OP said it was probably put up some time in the 80s.
Not sure what year this photo was taken but it's not there.

There's an advert for Homebase which opened in 1981 so it must have been after that.

v Fulham in October 1977 , it was there! So probably either the 1976/77 or 1977/78 season

Looking at Walthy's season reviews , I couldnt see enough of the bottom of the BLUT in the 1976/77 season review to see the clock but I remember reading an article in Flashing Blade about Chico Hamilton's penalty hitting the clock against Millwall in May 1977. I wasnt at the match because I was at school near Newbury.Huzzah!
Head for Housleys for scrap with someone heading a ball. Early memories.Clock not there when we played Everton in October 1974

That was the match I was on about. Not sure if it actually hit the clock or not, or it was just a standing joke but me and my mates always used to reference it whenever a shot was ballooned over the bar. It would have been pretty close though. Worse penalty I'd ever seen until Simmo's launch into orbit. The clock was definitely in place then.Looking at Walthy's season reviews , I couldnt see enough of the bottom of the BLUT in the 1976/77 season review to see the clock but I remember reading an article in Flashing Blade about Chico Hamilton's penalty hitting the clock against Millwall in May 1977. Didn't the later one feature a drawing of a grinning kid with a black eye?Head for Housleys for scrap with someone heading a ball. Early memories.
