Bob knew how to deal with fuckwits on P&G, unlike today's incumbents.
I played for him in 1970s when he managed Parkway Markets in Sheff & Rotherham midweek league.
He dealt with some tough characters in that lot too, with the same aplomb.
Sad loss to Sheffield sport.

I sat next to Bob some years ago in the South Stand, whilst Nigel Clough was managing.
Didn't recognise him but as soon as he spoke I knew the voice was familiar.He seemed very proud to have started P&G going, and what was the start of football phone ins.

I said to him,"always thought you were an owl and biased towards them, too happy when they scored".
"I was very good liar!" he said.

He was with family sorting tickets for the Hull semi-formal that day. Condolences to all them.

And therein lies why he was so good. He always came across as impartial just like some of the other greats, the best example being Benaud.

A nice man and a friend of my dad. He will be missed.

Part of the Sheffield football furniture - will forever live in our memories. What a distinctive tone and manner. RIP.

I knew Bob well, both as a Magistrate and bowler. He was very much a Blade, for those who don’t know that.

I last saw him at my dad’s funeral last year and he also attended my mum’s. He never forgot his old bowling pals. He and my dad won the Sheffield Veterans Indoor Pairs together.

I remember the day at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court when a defendant who thought Robert had treated him a little harshly called out ‘Its a grumble, Bob...’
