Evening all, thanks for your patience - new pod with Roygbiv is out now. Probably getting far too excited about our start to the season, but what the hell, football's supposed to be enjoyable. Talking that man Iliman, McBurnie's McGoldrick impression, some of the numbers behind our great start, Lowe piecing it together, and finally... can we do it away from the Lane? Cheers for listening!

Smashing. Really looking forward to this one.

Enjoyed that.

I sit almost directly behind the net on the Kop and we thought the same.
The shot initially seemed to be just going wide but bent in at the last minute.

I was shocked it hit the post, then just assumed it would hit the post and bounce away.
When it landed in the net we were all shocked. Agree....it's one of the best goals I've seen live.

Great listen. Your optimism is not misplaced. This could be a season to relish.

Agree....the thing that made me laugh was Beans and Roygbiv try to be grounded and professional using facts and logic.
I'm the same and tend not to over react however which ever way you look at it, all the trends look REALLY REALLY positive.
We easily look a better squad than last season and in theory we should improve as the season progresses.
Also agree that our bench seems stronger than it was in the PL, might be the strongest bench in our entire history.

In order to stay grounded think it's important to mention some negatives.

1: Without Sharp we don't seem to have strikers who can score many.
However to date it's not been a problem because we have midfielders and defenders scoring goals.
Also you suspect that once McBurnie and Brewster score they'll go on a run of scoring several goals.

2: Our away form is still concerning. We seem to have a pre-match "lets try and contain them" negative attitude, like in the Watford game.
However you expect promotion quality teams to dominate a few away matches with relatively easy wins. We seem to be improving
So will be interesting how we perform away at Luton Town on Friday night.

Roygbiv mentioned a good point, the result at Luton isn't so important as there's plenty of the season left and as he says we could have an unlucky 1-0 defeat.
The important issue is whether we can go to Luton and assert ourselves showing our general superiority away from home.
Good and bad luck plays a part in one-off results, however performances should always be consistently good every match.

3: The other negative is whether we lose some players (like Berge) in the next 2 weeks or lose players in the January transfer window.
However I'd say that unlike last season (when we had MGW) we aren't a one man team.
Losing Berge will make us weaker but we'll still have plenty of excellent midfielders.
Who knows, the young Man City midfielders on loan might end up being more effective to the team than Berge.

4: Another negative which applies to all older Blades is
When ever we get really excited thinking we've cracked it and have a great team.
You just know a really poor performance isn't far away bringing everyone down to earth with a bump or we'll be greeted with news that half the team are out with long term injuries....you just know when things start looking great then something will pop up to thwart it like ownership issues, covid, a European war or a financial meltdown etc.

Hence we know it's best to stay quiet so we don't wake up the footballing Gods and we remain humble.

Evening all, with apologies to Tufty Club, Roygbiv and I have boshed out a quick reaction podcast to tonight's game before Royston sets off on his holidays. McBurnie finally puts one in the net (and how), and Jordan Amissah does a fine old job stepping in for Wes as our injury list takes yet another turn for the ridiculous.

Thanks for listening, and UTB!

Evening all, with Roygbiv on holiday, I was delighted to be able to borrow YorkBlade to talk about last night's win over Reading as the Blades return to the top of the early-season table. Thanks very much to Hal for his time, and to you for listening!

And in an instant, the indisputably wonderful BladesPod becomes Smooth FM … as opposed to Radio Badger’s Arse.

Roygbiv got his work cut out if he’s coming back from this.

😀

Beans weeeeerz pod lad? I've got 5 spreadsheets of data to analyse this afternoon and was hoping to do it to your dulcet tones with Roygbiv dialling it in from wherever he can get signal at the top of some hill presumably 😁

Seriously though I'm late to this, only started listening this season (now I'm in a job with free time and planning that allows me time to listen) and I bloody love it. Keep up the good work and thank you.

Just for your future reference Ben, I have to drive about 80-90 mins early on a Tuesday and Thursday so if you can have them ready for then and at about that running time it would be appreciated.
Not asking you and Roy to shoulder the full load though, so feel free to highlight this to the 4 Blades in the pub crew so they can help you out.

Thanks in advance!

Good call to get Hal in as your foil. It’s much like the Blades squad there, bringing Hal off the bench to replace Andrew/Roy/Panchero.

Seriously, it good to hear an accomplished broadcaster give up his time and step into the breech. Plus I always enjoy Hal’s polished positivity on TSUW. Some might think he’s a bit of a happy clapper, but that’s my job, not his.

GLTTL with BFBS in Cyprus.

PS. No offence to Roy, but it’s actually good to have the occasional guest presenter on the pod. :)

Tufty club on Tuesday, Bladespod on Thursday - sorted

Late to the party for the Reading pod. What a treat for the ears to listen to the two most eloquent Blade voices on the scene! Your voices are just similar enough that I could imagine you both talking into a mirror and seeing the other person 😆

Shout out to Roy though for representing myself and the other Sheffielders that sound common as muck 😉

Evening all, thanks for your patience - new pod with the returning Roygbiv is here: recapping our first away win of the season, the impressive Rhys Norrington-Davies, that pesky corner routine, Goal Machine McBurnie, Sander "I'm not fuckin' leaving" Berge, all the moves and non-moves from the transfer deadline, Rotherham at home and a fair bit more. Was a fun one to record, hope you enjoy.

Thanks for the link to Rainbow Blades Roy. Very interesting to learn about the cultural differences, inclusion and diversity.
My interest follows reaction to the womens Euros, which was reported encouragingly for the greater family atmosphere at games.
Reminds me of time spent following mens rugby league in the late 70s and early 80s. Much more enjoyable atmosphere.
They seem keen to raise interest in the womens game, and are clearly using the obvious male football link to promote their side of things.
Interesting following the Ky Gordon issue yesterday. Maybe theircrowd atmosphere has something beneficial for the mens game too. Their historical perspective could have a positive impact there, especially creating a better family atmosphere?
