Evening all - sorry for the delay for those who were waiting, Covid nobbled me just before the game. Anyway, Roygbiv very generously talks me through what I missed, including Ahmedhodzic's debut, better showings from the likes of Clark and Fleck, plus we look ahead to what we'd like to see at West Brom on Thursday and preview Boro away.

Cheers for listening!

Correct me if I'm wrong but is this your 2nd time with Covid bro? Hope you feeling better.

As always, thanks Ben and Andrew for a really entertaining and informative podcast. Invariably, I just listen and nod along in agreement. However, this time, I had a jaw-dropping moment. Iliman Ndiaye better than Brooks (when he was a Blade). Whist distance ensures I watch the games on the TV or other devices, Brooks was the most exciting played I'd seen since TC. If you're right, and I do value your opinion, Illiman will have a great career.
Thanks again guys and I hope you're back to 100% fitness soon Ben.

I think Iliman has all the raw attributes that Brooks didn't possess. Such as speed and strength.

Brooks was a very smart player with good technical ability, but if Iliman hits his ceiling he will go alot further than Brooks.

enjoyable listen chaps, thanks for sharing. probably you guys and pompey whose opinions i value highest on these boards, not to say i always agree 100%. keep the bladespods coming; the original and still the best! #loyal

I've mulled it over a bit more to see if I was just getting overexcited but I stand by my opinion on this. Ndiaye is slightly older than Brooks was in his first season, and Brooks was obviously hit with glandular fever during that season too which sidelined him and possibly set him back a bit when he returned. And I'm not sure Ndiaye has had a "signature game" yet like Brooks did against Wednesday at Hillsborough.

But I do just think Ndiaye is a better, more rounded player already (than Brooks was before he joined Bournemouth, just to give context for anyone else reading). I think he impacts the game more, he's a much bigger goal threat, and as jono_t2000 says above he has the edge on his physical attributes. The way Ndiaye stepped up for us at the end of last season when all our strikers were injured probably tips the scales on this for me.

All opinions innit :) And hopefully Ndiaye in 6-12 months is playing like Brooks was at Bournemouth before his injuries and illness.

Also, I'm feeling back to full health now, thanks very much - and testing negative 🕺

I think contributing to a goal and famously megging a 'star' Wednesday player, makes it a bit more than just a signature game, especially given that the pub teams were taking on the soon-to-be-crowned-kings-of-Europe. That goal gainst DirtyLeeds didn't do him any harm either.

I agree that Ndiaye has loads of promise, but I'd argue that prior to the Galndular Fever, Brooks had actually delivered more.

As you say, opinions. innit...

I agree. It's close but I think Ndiaye has greater physicality than Brooks did in his time with us, and an equal level of skill. That shades it for me.

Of course, recency bias is also a thing.

Ndiaye over brooks for me
People seem to forget that aside from the outstanding Wednesday game and s nice finish v Leeds that brooksy struggled to find a role in the team and didn't contribute anywhere near as consistently as ndiaye is
True but there was a degree of Wilder’s rigidity to thank for that I’m not sure Wilder knew what to do with him he didn’t fit the way he wanted to play.

Wheeerrrrzzz blades pod?!

Only joking, I do realise you probably have to fit it in around lots of other things.

Sorry folks, got it edited and uploaded as quickly as possible! Here's the latest pod with Roygbiv; an entertaining 2-2 draw with Boro, a game of two halves from Max Lowe, a promising cameo from Brewster, and questioning the use (or non-use) of subs... particularly in 30 degrees heat. But what do I know. Also a preview of our game with Sunderland on Wednesday neet.

Thanks very much for listening (and your patience!)

Mcburnie and Burke same footballing ability.

Difference is Wilder brought Burke on to see games out as an attacking outlet and keep the opposition on their heels.

Hecky brings Mcburnie on to defend crosses into the box.

One has a positive expected value

Ancient Mariner gag was a good one. In terms of biscuit IQ, something about the oaty texture of a hobnob feels intelligent to me? I will say though that conversation had a whiff of Webding and Deadbat so you’d better be careful to not steal their IP

You know what they say- imitation is the sincerest form of taking the piss.

Evening all, new pod is up with Roygbiv and myself - another enjoyable game, another home win, Ahmedhodzic impressing again, McBurnie (!), Lowe (!!) and Khadra putting in good showings, and we also discuss Blackburn on Saturday. Can't wait for it.

Thanks for listening!

Glad there’s more pod content for today. I was worrying I’d actually have to do some proper work! Tufty Club and Four Blades got me through yesterday.

Outstanding fellas. You two are in a rich vein of form this season. Top quality (and fun!) analysis.

Already looking forward to your Blades v Blackburn podcast. After Iliman’s performance, your earlier prognosis looks very well placed. Certainly one of the best goals I’ve seen scored at the Lane.

Evening all, thanks for your patience - new pod with Roygbiv is out now. Probably getting far too excited about our start to the season, but what the hell, football's supposed to be enjoyable. Talking that man Iliman, McBurnie's McGoldrick impression, some of the numbers behind our great start, Lowe piecing it together, and finally... can we do it away from the Lane? Cheers for listening!
