Hey all, latest podcast episode is up... and there was a lot to talk about after last night's game.
Presenting 9 thoughts (one for each goal) from the game, including the fantastic form of Leon Clarke, replacing Paul Coutts, whether you can write this game off as a freak result, and our squad depth. I also have a quick word about our win over Burton on Friday, and look ahead to Birmingham at the weekend.
To try something a bit different this week, I recorded a little bit of "instant reaction" from half-time and full-time at Bramall Lane last night. I think it makes for an interesting thing to revisit (I almost nailed the final score at half-time), and hope you do too
As always, feedback very much appreciated (as is subscriptions, reviews, shares, etc
)!

Brief extract on the brilliance of Clarke, because he's definitely worth it:
Leon Clarke now has 12 goals , 8 in his last 3 games (2 and ½ really), and is the division’s leading scorer. He's averaging a goal every 108 minutes; only Matej Vydra of Derby has scored more than 5 goals at a faster rate.
He's also been uncannily accurate with his shooting: 63% of his 32 shots have been on target, which again compares very favourably to the competition. You have to go down to #6, Hull’s Jarrod Bowen, for someone who hits the target as consistently. Incidentally the man behind Bowen, with a 75% accuracy rate, is our own Billy Sharp (which I think is an amazing stat of itself - 20 shots by Sharp, 15 on target).
The stats for Clarke are almost unsustainably high - no-one is going to keep scoring at 7 goals every 3 games in this league, unless you’re Messi or Ronaldo. But don’t underestimate how fantastic Clarke has been. Even setting aside the great hold-up and link-up play he does - because there’s a lot of that too - he has scored some excellently-taken goals. More than a few times this season I’ve been “surprised” to see the ball hit the net (his second last night, his first two against Hull) - the man is in the form of his life and here’s hoping it carries on.
He won’t get 2 goals a game for the rest of the season but if he keeps playing like this then mid-20s is very much on the cards. Which, like much of our season so far, is ridiculous. Just ask Wednesday fans.
