20 years ago I was helping United out with scouting. Two of the players I wanted us to sign were Brede Hangeland and Robert Koren. I think we already had our eyes on Claude Davis when Hangeland was available, and then chose Ahmed Fathi over Koren.

Vinnie Jones, thought it was around £500,000, but it was £700,000. Marwood was signed about the same time for £350,000. So we splashed out a million in September 1990.

I remember that, Marwood was a flop but I thought with Vince and his ego we had the catalyst to stay up which was the case I remember that most of the time that season we weren’t that bad in those games we lost.

Yeah, we just struggled to score any goals until we got to December. Marwood did score the late winner away at Everton, but as you say, a disappointment for us.
