Well the players are in a fortunate position with this match.

Lose then no one will care too much as we don't want to be in the JPT. If we win the match then its a moral boost, a win is a win and all that #unitedtogether cobblers.

I can't really remember the last time I gave a toss about the JPT however shock, shock, horror!....Suddenly this game holds a bit of relevance and importance about it, not because I want us to win the competition what so ever but as a tool to address our league form.

We all know that you get a small fine should you make wholesale changes to the team however the financial incentives in this competition are slim anyway therefore we might as well use the game to our advantage again and land ourselves with a small fine.

I think you know where this is going....Wholesale changes! And loads of em!...Field a team that consists of mainly u21 / second stringers with only a few out of form first teamers in the starting XI. Give the players who have just returned back from injury a good run out for confidence as well.

We need to be looking at the other options at our disposal whilst saving the fitness of our first team XI because quite frankly this competition means naff all to us other than a chance for Adkins to use it as a learning tool.

What ever the merits or not of the completion, it is an opportunity for players on the fringe to push for a start and for 1st teamers to actually put a shift in. We need a result and a performance from these players

Can see it being something like

-----------------------Long

Alcock---McGahey-----Kennedy--McEveley

Scougall-----Reed----Dimaio----Woolford

------------------Done--Adams

Kennedy will be saved for the weekend now Soft Dave's injured his hamstring.

This is just the sort of game that a bunch of lightweight mediocrities will lose.

We have a few such players.

I want to win this thing. Were not going up so we might as well have a pop at this.

Is the family stand open for this game ?

Only for those with at least 6 beautiful children and a certificate saying what an incredibly responsible adult they are. Probably.

Just a reminder that we are going to win this trophy, so we'll see how many of the moaners who can't resist telling us all that they aren't going tonight in tedious detail will still feel that way when the rest of us are having a day out at Wembley. As I posted on 5 September and will keep posting until we have won the bloody thing:

Adkins would like to win this competition again (as he did with Southampton) for the following reasons:
1 It's a chance to give fringe players a competitive game, with less pressure than in the League Cup or FA Cup. Can also boost their confidence (e.g. Long at Hartlepool).
2 Not just fringe players, though – as we saw last week [at Hartlepool], with Flynn and Kennedy, it gives players returning from injury a competitive game to get back to match fitness.
3 Penalty shoot-out practice. See last Tuesday.
4 It doesn't matter that much if we lose, but it's always nice to win.
5 Has no one noticed that we haven't exactly been overflowing with silverware in the last however many decades? It might be a tinpot trophy, but winning it would be good for the morale of the club, the players and the fans, and could be habit-forming. This is what I think Adkins thinks too.
6 It would be a good day out at Wembley for us. I'm looking forward to it.

Long
Alcock McGahey McEveley K.Wallace
Reed Dimaio Woolford
Done McNulty Adams

This would work fine for me if you put in JCR instead of Adams. Or DDG, at least bring him on for Done after 45. Adkins wants to give players a chance apparently and this looks like a good time to do so. If he's not using all the squad depth here then sell/loan them.

I don't think anyone would hold it against United if we put on an absolutely pathetic display in the first JPT game of every season and got knocked out. Maybe we'll become masters at this over the next five years or so.

We have never got close to winning this cup since being in the god forsaken league, as a small (very) crumb of comfort for our pathetic promotion attempts.

it only is of interest if we get to the final
it has its uses though
I remembered to pick up some colour charts from the local paint supplier

Is it 5 outfield changes and the keeper we're allowed? I presume Basham doesn't count but do injuries?

If so:

Long
Freeman Collins Mcgahey Wallace
JCR Baxter Coutts Woolford
Done McNulty

Reaching the playoff final after getting 90 points and two playoff semi-finals and still not getting promoted, along with an FA Cup semi-final and a League Cup semi-final, may be disappointing, but it's not "pathetic", unlike many of the posts we see here from people who just want to moan all the time.

We should try and win this cup. We aren't going to win anything else, silverware is silverware at the end of the day. If it is 'too tinpot' for us, then why haven't we won it already? It's more of an embarrassment not winning it in 4 seasons than winning it.

I'd just like to see us win a game, to remind us it's possible.

The players are really up for this one

Pathetic promotion attempts, no mention of the cup runs. We had one decent stab at the play offs under Wilson, the other attempts have been pathetic and weak willed. Maybe some people are happy with persistent failure, who knows ?.
