I thought it would be interesting to hear about supporters who are Blades, but were not born in Sheffield.
Came as a student maybe. Parents supported us etc. Maybe those who have never been to Sheffield, or The Lane.
My son was born in Kingston, Surrey and is a passionate Blade, seeing as his dad (me) was originally from Sheffield. We travel to many games when we can.

My son, born in Glossop (insert crying emoji here), and if it is one thing I have got right its his passion for SUFC. Only 4 year old too, but I identified the importance of educating him early because of the amount of Man United and 'Citeh' fans he'll have to face at nursery/school. He has a goldfish called Deano, and a picture of the big man in his room (a big A3 poster from a 1989 edition of Shoot!, who better to look over him while he sleeps?!).

Although his passion and knack of remembering songs has got him in trouble at nursery, asked recently by his teacher why he was being mischievous he replied "I'm Sheffield United, we do what we want" - the wife wasn't as impressed as I was!

Balham Jnr is due to arrive in Kingston hospital in February. Fingers crossed that if he/she has any inclination towards football they'll make the right choice. That would also be a nice bit of symmetry with me: born in Sheffield but to parents without any footballing allegiance.

You mean there are people who CHOSE this path?!

My nephew (son of my brother) was born in London on January 1, 2000, thus sharing a birthday with his grandfather and Tony Currie. Since then he has lived in Bordeaux and in Costa Rica, courtesy of his dad's work, and is now back in London. Never lived in Sheffield, therefore, but he was on the away end with his dad (and uncle!) at Charlton on Saturday, cheering the Blades on and was as gutted as the rest of us when that injustice of an equaliser went in at the death.

My nippers are both mancs by birth but doing my best to steer them the right way....not easy when you can sometimes hear the roar from Old Trafford from our back garden mind...

Brilliant

sorry bout the f#cked up post before.
I was born in Essex but grew up in East London 3 streets from Upton Park! You can see the floodlights from our garden and also from my infant school. My first ever pint was in the Boleyn and I even was West Ham as a kid and played at the Boleyn ground 3times. Have always been a massive blade and wore my shirt with pride even wore my blades tracksuit at west hams training ground.

Wasn't born and brought up in Sheffield, not Yorkshire, not even England.

First game when I was 21.

But I'm a Blade, you better believe it.

To answer your question Lardy, I chose this path (although I believe pre-determination and fate played a hand) and if I believed in God I would thank him/her/it every morning (perhaps not every Saturday afternoon, granted)

Up The Blades. Now. Forever. :)

Good post Kingston, interesting reading, for what its worth I was born on city road, opposite the cemetery :-o

Ken Jnr was born in Worcestershire
(He prefers Hendo's, btw)
Allus a Blade - it's genetic
His first initiation was a Blades Baby Grow, in front of the TV watching (gurgling and filling his nappy) the Blades DO Man U in the FA Cup when Jamie Hoyland and Glynn Hodges scored.

I was born and bred Sheff
Mrs Ken's from Warwickshire - and even she had season tickets when we were courting ;)

No Fannyin' abart, 'ere, tha' kno's

I was born and bred in Whitby, but after 30 years in Reading, Southampton and North Somerset I concede I am now a soft Southern poofter

I first went to the Lane aged 18 and I loved it, and I still do. It's not that daft, the other Yorkshire choices were Middlesborough or Leeds, what would you have done if you were me? :)

Chessy born and bred. But there was only one team to see in the region back in the early 70s. Never went to school with any grunters but there was always a good scattering of Blades. To me back then Leeds were our biggest rivals.

To be honest, I've been very pleasantly surprised in recent years by the number of non-natives who have taken us to their hearts and they especially have my respect and admiration. You actually consciously chose this difficult way of life, for me it was bestowed.

About 8 years ago, the season ticket holder behind me was a Northern Irishman, and when we weren't playing well (which was most of the time) he used to go full 'Ian Paisley'. Quite scary actually. There's a Chinese couple who sit in front of me and when we scored past Bury last week they went ballistic as did all of us. They're no tourists that's for sure, Spent the day with two lads from Suffolk when we played Man Utd last season and also met the fine gentleman that is itsinyerblood last season at the Millwall match. I'm currently working on converting my scouse mate at work, he already hates Wednesday so that's a start.

Anyway whoever you are and wherever you came from, welcome. I'd also be very interested to know what drew you here.

Me? Born in Fulham.

Mentioned this once or twice before, but the trajectory of my passion for the Blades began in the late 1960's. My dad brought me up to support Fulham, then a middling Div 1 team. But it was one of United's visits to Craven Cottage that drew me in, stole my heart, and from there, well there was no turning back. I lived in the wilderness for many years, including an enjoyable time in New York, but I could never have imagined that I'd eventually come to live in Sheffield, and now just a few minutes walk from the ground. Unfortunately severe leg injuries get in the way of attending games as often as I'd like, but I'm a dedicated Forum poster, and the dedication of young Foxy and Linz to making all of this possible is quite staggering considering just how smoothly this place works and the connection it allows for Blades to chat, agree, or disagree. In short we're no different to any other set of supporters. We're a cross-spectrum of the world at large, on the whole good-natured and good-hearted. We're also a funny bunch, a vital ingredient in supporting a club whose fortunes have dipped more than I'd like in recent years.

We've a great ground, when it's rocking there's nowhere better, the emotion swells, the desire to succeed rises, and.......well at the moment we've finally found a manager who shares the United bug. Not that it matters, I'd take anyone as manager as long as they knew what they were doing, but it feels like we're moving forward. I'm a pragmatist, one step at a time, but the emotional investment that Chris Wilder has put into this club has allowed all of us to finally believe that we might, just this once, get promoted and play against teams this ground, this team, and this club were meant to play against. We're on the up at last, I will attend a game soon, promise UTMB!

My old man chose us after emigrating from a suburb of Stoke-on-Trent. Had to pick somewhere to watch football whilst he was at Uni. Went to watch us and them lot, and thoroughly disliked their ground and their fans, as you can imagine.

I'm eternally grateful for his choice.

Hearing a roar from OT give you a shock these days.

Was born in Sheffield - Dad was a Gooner and Grandad was Spurs. Used to have a kick about with my Grandad as a kid and he got me supporting Spurs! Anyway, I lived away from Sheffield for many years and moved back around the mid 90's when I started going to the odd Blades match (never considered ever going to the dark side of the City) and gradually they just grew on me so much and I have been a season ticket holder and occasional away supporter since 2002. There was something special about BDTBL and the whole experience, atmosphere and vibe.

Will always have a soft spot for Spurs (I like the way they play the game anyway) out of respect for my Grandad but at the end of the day I'm back in Sheffield now, love the Blades and there is absolutely no point in supporting a team you have/can rarely get to see.
