Seen as we're discussing Blades kit preferences, what's everyone's view on this...

Don’t mind some black on the shirt but while we have Adidas kits, the striping on the shoulder is enough for me.

I Bobby Moncur.

It was the saga of a stuttering, roman emperor and centre half, set in Newcastle around AD 1971

Thick red and white with thinner black stripes is definitely the best recipe for success. 2017/18 kit was one of the better ones for this reason, only let down by having too much black on the sleeves and sides. 1993/94 kit is still the daddy of all kits and feature thin black pinstripes along with my personal preference of a shield for the club crest instead of a circle.

I wonder if the responses were filtered by age we may see a trend here?

As an older Blade I prefer the traditional red and white stripes because black pinstripes were not a feature of the kit in the days when I first started watching them. I don't deny that adding a black pinstripe makes the kit more visually striking, but to me, that's not the traditional Sheffield United kit that I associate with the Blades.

Then again, we weren't changing the kit every season, like all clubs do now, just to make money out of the fans. I'm glad I'm not affected by the urge to have the latest kit.

The last Sheffield United shirt I had was one that my colleagues bought for me when I left the company about 15 years ago. It was a complete surprise that a bunch of, mainly Southerners, had a whip round and bought me a Blades shirt with my name on it, and a rather nice pewter Blades tankard. I don't think I ever wore that Blades shirt, apart from playing 5 a side football in it. But the tankard came in dead handy!

I remember getting my first Blades shirt, that would be back in the early 1970's. This one...

I loved that Sheffield crest on the front. And on the back it was plain red and white stripes - which is probably why I have a strong preference for an all striped shirt, front and back. The only problem was seeing the numbers on a striped shirt. But back then, what you did was get your mother to sew a square white patch on the back and then iron, or sew, the number onto that.

Mine was number 7 - like the guy in this photo - who was my idol as a young kid. He inspired me to go on to be a bit of a winger myself and rip it up in the Sunday pub leagues around Sheffield! ;)

I’ve got that one now! Short sleeved though 😁

Why not have black stripes every so often? Too many times we get samey-samey, so black pins are taken well as and when. Alpharooms shirt had black sleeves, teletext had black stripes, no black stripes this season and none next, so expect black stripes next time perhaps? Is it really that much of an issue to some people? Grown ass men whining about a football kit.

Come on fellas. 🙄

I don't remember them doing it in short sleeves? Are you sure you've not just had it a long time and you've grown? ;)

Haha no. I mentioned the sleeves cos it’s not an original. There’s a company That makes them up for you. It’s pretty cool 😁

The first kit I ever got had the Black pin stripes late in the 70's and i loved it.
But I'm probably leaning towards no Black pin stripes now.

I voted for pinstripes but like both tbh, and it is something I’m happy to see change year on year depending on what sort of design we’ve opted for.

This is in contrast to solid backs...

My favourites from your list are the 90s laver kit with black pin stripe, the teletext holidays kit with black pin stripe & the final one without and with Sheffield coat of arms.

I think that goes to show that it massively depends on which shirt you grew up with as the Laver shirt is from my childhood and my favourite ever, closely followed by the Teletext (Bouncing Day Massacre) shirt.

I find the shirts without the black pinstripes quite bland and boring if I'm honest. The Westfield Health one would be one of my least favourite of the last 30 years. It's just so 'Meh'.
