Should Tom Hark by the Piranhas make a comeback as our goal music?

I don’t hate it as much as everyone else seems to (but I’m a bit younger than most) but it was of its time. I much prefer the spontaneous reactions. I used to hate when Gary Sinclair would play rocking all over the world at every full time without fail.

We used it in the years I was young and first started going (2003-2008(?)) so there’s the nostalgia element of it for me too. However I agree it was of its time.

I’d hate it if it ever made a return. Tinpot. Leave it for the likes of Norwich and lower league clubs.

The version of Tom Hark that most people recognise and is always used in these situations is the one by the Piranhas from the 1970’s.

I am ancient enough to remember the original version of this when it came out in around 1956 which was by Elias and his Zig Zag Jive Flutes , a band from South Africa which played a type of music known as Kwela .

It caused quite a sensation at the time , being so different from anything we had ever heard before and in my view is much superior to the cover version in terms of both the authenticity and simplicity of its presentation .
I just googled it and although I thought it would be new to me, I have heard the original before, thanks for the memory ISJS. I agree it’s better than The Piranhas whose version isn’t helped by poor lyrics.

I can’t help feeling that a Zig Zag Jive Flute is potentially a decent euphemism 🙂

Gary brought his own version out didn't he, The Gaz band or summat? Think we had Seven Nation Army for a short while as well. Regardless of the song, goal music is awful.

Tom Hark reminds me of being young & having fun watching the Blades with my mates.
On the rare occasion I hear it, I still smile about the good times we had.
“We’re the Blades
How do you do
We’re going back to Division 2
We’ve been in the 3rd for far too long
Now we are here, to sing our song”
Or summat like that as I remember.

Leave that stuff in the past though - there’s nowt better than a post-goal spontaneous chant go up with the whole ground joining in.

The Steve Bruce, Heath and early Warnock years. With those old graphics on the black and white. 16k crowds, getting kids to dress as cheerleaders when the teams came out and a completely different team the next week, as someone was sold to Birmingham or Derby.

I've just blushed thinking back to that. Id rather get kicked in the bollox with a wrinkle picker than hear that again.

TBH I thought that was manufactured dogshit.

I've been to one NFL game in the US, and the biggest thing I hated was the crowd only seemed to cheer or get excited when the scoreboard was telling the crowd to make some noise.

WTF, let's not have a plastic crowd.

The crowd can play a part in helping the team, there are times when the crowd needs to be quiet or make noise.

It’s just a different sport and so the crowd behaves differently.

Thankfully goal celebration music in the PL has been killed by VAR , no one really knows if they've scored. Even makes me smile at Arsenal who have the big flags waved at goals , only to find it's ruled out.
Suppose we like the spontaneous , which is why we don't like VAR .

It will evoke great memories from your Childhood that will always flare up whenever you hear that song 🎵...
I'd say leave it that way and it will always be special to you .
It's Amazing how sounds & smells can transport you back to a bygone era
.......Oh mother I can feel the soil falling over my head , and as I climb into an empty bed 🛌
I used to listen to I Know Its Over continuously on repeat on my Walkman, sat in the dark lying on my bed. Fuck knows why I didn't have the lights on, my man must have wondered wtf I was up to.. Teenagers are so weird.

It made the odd appearance not too long ago, might have been a cup game with Wilder where it was last played 🤔
It did! It was the 19/20 premier league season when Leon clarke scored the winner against Fylde in the third round 🙃😂

Even as a teenager I got sick of this song fairly quickly after one season.

It needs to remain in the bin.

i like it then but i was 12 😄. now id rather not have it i like natural sound

although it was strange as i don't know when it ended it was huge in 2003. but i don't remember it after

The most infuriating thing about Garyoke at the end of games , is that often the kop are singing something anyway.
