However in reality if Blackwell is in charge we shall probably finish 3rd, 4th or 6th and lose out again at Wembley. Is that a measure of success and where would people stand then.
Why should we have to wait to fail instead of recognising that some of Blackwells management moves are at the least bizarre, he has weakened the squad in terms of depth, leaving them vulnerable to injury and suspension and again is relying on filling the team with loan players to compete again this season. The icing on the cake is Blackwells apparant lack of understanding of tactics and how to play the game. All these points considered the question is:
Will Blackwell lead us into the Premier League - My answer is No I don't think so !
I get your point Fiery and like Jose I think we all get that you just don't like Blackie, his playing style, team selections and now the transfers that he's made. I said this in an earlier post, but the negativity that yourself and Jose are throwing around is neither based on fact or anything other than pure speculation and 'what if's'.
This thread has gone way off the original point of 'Blackwell's transfers' to pure undiluted Blackwell bashing and its given a few on here the chance to put across yet more speculation of what we should do if we fail.
The funniest thing about the 'Blackwell out' rants is that you've now picked up on the measures of success and failure. Blackies finished 2 seasons with us and the fact is that we finished 9th in the first season under him with 66 points and +5 GD and then 3rd with 80 points and +25 GD, granted the first season was only a part season. In both seasons we've had to lose high wage earners and now this season we've lost some big prospects because of losing the parachute payments.
We all know that the wages that we were paying before can't be paid now because we've lost the parachute payments, Charlton and Watford came down at the same time as us and look at them now. Did you expect us to keep the squad together after last season? You contradict yourself. Last season was clearly seen by Blackwell as a failure and certain players didn't make the grade and were taking the money. Thankfully they've gone now and we can now bring in some loan players to act as back up or push the current first teamers.
The comments made in the past few weeks about leaving Cotterill and Hendrie on the bench are in my mind ridiculous. The players aren't on the bench because Blackie just doesn't like them, its because there are better or in form players in front of them.
I don't always agree with Blackies tactics, the playing style or his management style, but since he's been with us he's got results. He's progressed the team and now he's having to wheel and deal to get a much smaller squad to link up. As for the comments on Blackies tactics, sorry i just don't get you. We play to be a very solid tight defensive unit. Yes we use Henderson as a target man, but thats always been more out of necessity and it more often than not gets the results. I want us to expand this and start using the ball on the floor more, but I think that will come.
As for his ability to manage in the PL, lets get there first and then we can talk about it. Personally I'd like him to be given the chance, but like any step up, the board would have to back any manager.
I haven't been excited by many of his signings, but thats because I don't know too much about them. From what I've seen and read so far they all appear to be fitting in well and producing the goods.
Harper looks like a decent signing but he could end up a dud, but i'll wait and see.
