Don't know if this has been mentioned by DW is trying to get Billy in as part of the coaching staff. Good move in my opinion.
Barlow Dearden Currie........... maybe a bit of Hope:)

We ain't got a barrel of money but we've got Woodward and Currie and with Eddie Colquhoun promotion is soon U-NIT-EDD

He's been scouting for Blackpool for the last few years, nothing to do with coaching I don't think.

I'm sure whilst it's lovely to reminisce about the good ol days having these fellas on board, but I'd hope that were going for the best people available rather than just names from cigarette cards...

True, but Blackpool have unearthed a few gems in the last couple of seasons and as chief scout, you presume Billy's had something to do with it.

He mentioned it on an interview on RS on Wednesday, Billy's still on holiday though and DW will be speaking to him when he returns. Well thats what DW said anyway.

Aye, that's fair enough, but it seemed with Barlow that more emphasis was put on him being a Blade rather than his credentials as a coach/assistant and Wilsons best comment was that he's a nice bloke and can't think of anyone that doesn't like him.

So with Dearden, I'm hoping that there's more info like yours instead of nice bloke guff :)

Billy Dearden will always hold a special place in my memory. He was the first Blade I saw score a goal in real life (not telly) at my first match at BDTBL.
Winner vs Leicester with Peter Shilton in goal.

Woody alive and well still lives in Tulsa I believe ,made it home for last squad reunion

Sadly he couldnt come to the last reunion because he was too ill to fly from USA

Billy Dearden will always hold a special place in my memory. He was the first Blade I saw score a goal in real life (not telly) at my first match at BDTBL.
Winner vs Leicester with Peter Shilton in goal.

His only goal against Leicester at BDTBL was in New Years Day 1972. We drew 1-1 and his equaliser was controversially given by the ref, as most in the crowd saw him handle the ball deliberately before the ball dropped on his feet to slot the ball past Shilts. All Leicester players were incensed and surrounded the ref and linesman after the goal

But did he not score direct from a corner against Shilton at Filbert street? remember in the last second? 0-1 COYRAWW. Also nice snow ball fight with the Leicester fans :))))))))))) after the boxing day game.

He scored direct from the corner at least 4 times. Newcastle (h) in the League Cup Sept 69, Leicester (a) in Sept 71 but there were about 5 minutes remaining when he scored, Coventry (h) in nov 71 and Norwich (h) in Jan 73

see below for the goal at Leicester

Those were the days.

BADGER ENGLAND BADGER ENGLAND

Thank you Silent for the link I never saw the ball go over the line, to many Blades in front of me and after the game a load of poxy Leicester fans wanting trouble looking for Blades fans and the idiot walking with me "I dont think Shilton will be playing for us next year what you think" And the fantastic reception we got at the railway station.

Love that '36 Cup Final print. When I was a kid, waxing lyrical about TC, my Grandad would always respond in the same way, 'long-haired poof, nivver bin a footballer. But Jock Dodds, naahden ah tell thi' theer worra proper player!'

We all clubbed together and bought him that '36 print. 'Aye, grand day aaht. Wi oni 'ad Jock play owt like!' My uncle now has it on his wall, next to photo of my grandad, resplendent in flat cap and red and white scarf!

Bert was also behind that goal, he saw it but it took a few seconds for everybody to realise that it was in. Those were indeed the days, we were the best team in the land for a couple of months.

In the Norwich match he should have been credited with two direct from the corner - somebody headed it in from about 6 inches from the goal line when the ball would have gone in anyway.

The Norwich keeper (Kevin Keelan, I think) used to stand well off his line for corners and when Woody swung the first one in he must have thought it was a fluke. When Woody did it again he went mad, claimed he'd been obstructed which was a load of bollocks and got booked when he should have been sent off for punching one of our players - who I believe was John Flynn if the memory cells are working tonight.

Dearden got the other goal in that game, so he must have been the 6 inch villain :-)
