I feel sorry for Reuben Selles

Why has Ruben been lying all summer btw?

All I kept hearing was "fast attacking football with pressing"

?????

Ironically tonight was the first time he chose the athletes in favour of the technicians (Godfrey over Seriki aside). After the Bristol City battering he's struggled to commit to the style he said he wanted to implement. Shit himself

Don’t think he’s necessarily tactical inept. Obviously talks a good game and is very Pep with his “moments” and “transition”. This is also quite different to “through, round, over”

I think he’s not a strong enough character to manage this group of players, or translate the theory into performance. Replaced a big character in Wilder. Shat the bed at Bristol City and gave the players a dressing down on the pitch. Seemingly fell out with Robinson who was likely an influential member of the squad. Think he lost the dressing room very early doors.

He obviously needs to go, but the players need to take a look in the mirror as well.

Clusterfuck.

On the one hand this reminds me of December 2023 when we lost to Burnley 5-0 (their first win of the season) and it could be argued that certain players (McBurnie) threw Hecky under the bus.

Our immediate reaction was to re-appoint Wilder - that didn't work out well did it?

Or is it - this reminds me of losing 3-0 to Southend in August 2016 and we stuck with Wilder. That worked out well.

Big decisions now required from the board. We'll see how big their bollocks are.

But if we are to become an 'established Premier league club' or dare I say it, we actually win a major trophy after waiting over 100 years then we mustn't keep doing the same thing and expect to get a different result.

I think they call that insanity.

He's needs to go. The fans have every right to sing what they want. Fair play to all the sheff u fans who's travelled down there. Paid there hard earnt money to watch this clown set up the team like he has
You do understand that once his contract is torn up he’ll be paid every cent that was due. His life for his kids and family won’t change unless he wants to move again and earn even more money somewhere else. He’ll be living in a sensational house with millions in his account for what will be about 6 weeks of work. This feeling sorry for sacked managers is a strange thing
He could be a nice guy but we don't need that .What we need is a winning manager ,as we are just spinning our wheels with Selles

Some of our fans singing sacked in the morning. It is a little bit disrespectful in my opinion and I definitely wouldn’t have been joining in on the chants.

If we think about it outside of football, the guy has probably bought a house in Sheffield and tried to settle down there, his kids probably trying to get used to a brand new school. He expected things to work out for him and his family and it hasn’t. I overall do feel sorry for him.

I’m not saying he shouldn’t be sacked at all, because he should. But I am also looking at it as life in general and I bet he’s going through a hard time at the moment.
My heart blades for the fuc**r sack him immediately

In the game of football he may be given the Charlton game. Think the owners are naive in the game of football and on a harsh learning curve. Selles will be a victim of this learning.
Guess the question you have to ask, who is the new manager. Wilder in some ways is the main name being mentioned. However his management of the Wembley game was totally wrong, reverting back to trying to defend a one goal lead.
We all have our ideas who should be the manager and much will be based on style of play wanted.

I agree with the o/p. We can call for his sacking but it's not personal. He is trying his best, but it's looking like his best is not good enough. No idea if he's moved his family to Sheffield, but if he has it must be tough on them. He tried, it didn't work, so get rid and no hard feelings. He must be having a tough time. Not only has he had the worst start ever for an SUFC manager, he's unlikely to be offered another job managing any club anytime soon.

I feel sorry for him in that he's clearly not good enough. This is too big of a job for him. It's ridiculous really, we've pinned a hoped for promotion run and a squad (and a club overhaul) on a bloke who's main achievement was making Hull slightly less shit.

This sums it up in a nutshell. The owners had a great chance for a reset, to appoint a progressive manager, and instead they went for Selles presumably because his Hull team beat us. It can’t be because of any other reason.

This is why I feel sorry for him, it’s abuse like this. Way too far pal. I get we are all angry at him but saying to burn his house down?

Are you being serious? What the fuck

Personal abuse like this is way over the top and actually embarrassing.

However to suggest we ‘feel sorry’ for someone who clearly hasn’t got a clue what he has doing. Looks like he has lost the best players in our squad. Stubbornly refuses to change tactics or formation whilst earning a very handsome wage?

Feel sorry for the fans who travelled to Ipswich and paid a lot of money for the pleasure.
Feel sorry for the fans who have seen us 15 mins from the prem to now rock bottom of the league and well beaten in EVERY game so far.

If things are so bad for him, there is a simple remedy. Hold you hand up, admit it’s too much for you and leave.

We know he won’t do that as it doesn’t make financial sense to do so.

Hopefully the board are currently trying to agree a ‘fuck off’ payment agreeable to both parties.

Selles the man and Selles the coach need to be thought of as two entities, which is I think what the OP is implying.

As a man, personal abuse should be avoided and some empathy sent his way for the vitriol he’s likely to encounter.

As a coach though it’s obvious he is out of his depth and highly likely to be replaced.

I thought he’d get until after Charlton next week, but I’ll be surprised if he’s still here by then. Last night his line up basically was a gamble in his favour to show he’s competent. If that comes off and we have a point now (gasp!) then we’re seeing progress. If it doesn’t however it’s a disaster, which ultimately is what happened.
