If we'd lost 0-1 on Saturday and won 5-2 tonight, everyone would have been
1) elated
2) unsurprised
tonight was a sickener... but move on

UTB

We were wank, things need addressing, and Hecky needs to realise, putting out a tired team 3 days after an awesome performance, without putting in fresh legs, was fucking stupid, especially with our track record with injuries!

Damned if he does/Damned if he doesn't.

If he plays Sharp and Khedra people are moaning that he's gone away from a winning team. He plays McBurnie and Ndiaye who look out on their feet from minute 1 and we all realise we're on for a long night.

This is where injuries have fucked us. Tonight was a Brewster and Sharp up top with a up and at 'em/front to back quickly style...

We'll be back!

I don't really think that is the reason for that display. People keep going on about us having the best squad in the league, but have we though? When the first team has Fleck, Stevens & Osborn in it teams just walk through our midfield. It is very sad, in the cases or Fleck & Enda, but they are not good enough for us now. I counted 6 times tonight where we conceded possession because of Osborns lack of height, not his fault but he shouldn't be used in the way he is being. When Norwood pings a ball out to him on the wing it invariably bounces over his head for a throw in to the other side.

When you look at our bench we have a mixture of not ready youngsters, players coming back from or nursing injuries. Then we have the evidence that our talisman, Billy, is also finished at this level. He has had a brilliant career, is a real Mr Sheffield United, but I for one don't want to see this version of him now, it is too sad, but it comes to us all.

Then there is the injuries. I have never known anything like it, & is a major contributor to us struggling in some games & losing consistency. It is noticeable how weak our midfield is with Fleck & Osborn in it, Norwood plays much better with Doyle in it because he doesn't have to cover for others.,

No doubt tonight has hurt us, but it isn't through lack of effort, or desire, we just don't have enough of or best players fit enough available.

What fresh legs are they then 3 of our subs are not quite match ready

Swings and roundabouts pal. Left Ollie and Illi on bench v Norwich and went 2-0 down. People after the game were saying play your best team. Can't win i'm afraid.

I don't think anyone pre match disagreed with an unchanged side.
Who would you have rested, Ndiaye and Mcb? They'd have been a riot. Don't forget Rotherham had massive injury problems and have played more games than us recently.
Problem tonight was McAtee and Ozzie in midfield, but we have no one else. We desperately need Doyle back for Saturday.

A huge kick up the backside tonight.
Hopefully this will stamp out all future complacency

Agree but the Burnley fans will have said the same about last week.

Still loads of matches to go and I’m still very confident we’ll finish top 2.

Did wonder what our tactics were tonight?

I'm sure we will, but, Osborn shouldve been on the bench, as should Fleck, we couldve started Mcatee and Khadra in the middle, Bash couldve started, Sharp Couldve started, and, Arblaster couldve come on, he looked way better than Mcatee when he came on on Satdy, and from what I've seen of him previously. We were totally off it all over the park tonight, even Wes was way off it with his kicking, passing and general handling of the ball, and Rotherham played the perfect game against us, and looked the better side from the off.

Exactly, we needed to stay in contention until the World cup break ,the last 3 wins have assured that.
Hopefully we'll now regroup, have better luck with injuries and have a good end to the season

Personally, idve tested Fleck and Anel, and started Bash and Khadra on the right and played Osborn on the left, and idve started Sharp up top and brought Mcburnie on at halftime, but I'm not the gaffer.

Spot on

Bash instead of Anel.
Khadra in midfield with Norwood n Osborn.
Sharp n Ndiaye up top, Mcburnie for Sharp at halftime.
That 3 sets.

It wont. Lost count the amount of performances like that I’ve seen under this manager.

We should see a reaction from that but we’ve seen it often enough to know that its not a one off.

FACTS

Where’s dychey

We've seen that sort of performance at least 5 times already this season. It's becoming a normal display for us now.
Spot on. Bog standard Sheff Utd away performance just delivered at home. Rovrum cleverly managed the game so as to break our momentum as best they could without riling the crowd or our team.
There's at least three ways you beat that Rovrum team tonight.
1. fight fire with fire and go full Pulis murderball on them, James Hanson and Gary Madine style up front with midfield runners bombing on. Our squad is a million miles from being able to do that.
2. Sit in with 442 or 451 and make them play the football, hit them on the counter with pace. Crystal Palace style. Again, squad says no or perhaps maybe with Khadra and Brewster starting...
3. Play football and use a crafty number 10 to unlock their slow but strong defence. Like Duffy or Coutts used to do. Squad says maybe but defence isn't solid enough to keep them out...

We ended doing a very odd wilderball/hoofing centrally and into the channels thing today.

There was no plan outside of give it to Norwood and lob a ball up to McBurnie. We looked so basic

Nothing wrong with McB & Ndiaye tonight apart from total lack of service from a piss weak midfield

Yep , Osborn is as waste of space on the R flank

A surprise result that can be attributed to too much high tempo, physically demanding football.
The performance against Burnley will have burned a few out, but the players and supporters will not want to admit that.
Sometimes, the mind is willing but the flesh is weak. They will have prepared for the Burnley game physically and mentally, and the result clearly mattered to them. It seems that a lot of those minds reacted in a way we might expect in hindsight. Rotherham are a decent side in this division on merit. However, there is no way a lesser team like that should be allowed to come to Bramall lane and leave with 3 points.
The only possible explanation, again, with hindsight, is too much football, too many players carrying minor nocks for too long, but still playing, and players playing out of position.
With those issues in mind, it’s a big ask to expect the normal levels of industry, and the mutual support that comes from team spirit.
I’m sure many will want to go again, just to prove themselves after this. PH needs to re-evaluate his philosophy for the Cardif game, unless he wants a repeat of this performance.

As an unrelated aside, Fallowfield needs to have a lie down, and a break from social media. I’m sure he is carrying a dangerous injury. ;)

Nah mate, you watched a different game. Ndiaye looked leggy as hell and kept giving the ball away as he was half a yard slower than the opposition. McBurnie was no where near as physical as he was on Saturday. Totally understandable. Neither of them are renown as physical specimens so two matches a week is going to catch up with them. Which is why the Brewster injury/Jebbison not stepping up - is causing us big issues.

Exactly this.

Dare I say it as I went to school with the guy, but questions have to be asked of the new Head of performance if we're getting so many injuries and we're getting a 'leggy" display every 4th game...
