The suggestions that Chris is the only one who should manage this club and that there is no one else suitable in world football to do the job now are beyond ridiculous.

But, this is the end result of the narrative he created from day 1 back in 2016 that, to quote his on pitch antics recently, he's 'the f*g man'.

He isn't and, if he was, he wouldn't have to play the performative hero either.

A thought. If the Wilder Black Book theory is true, the Owners have been conditioned to think that one attribute a manager has is an exhaustive knowledge of players from within their respective pyramid.

Given the calamity around the AI experiment, I suspect any incumbent would need to have a similar depth to their knowledge base to satisfy the checklist the owners will draw up to select a new manager.

Of the names bring touted on these threads, who has the pedigree of scouring the lower levels of their respective pyramids and pulling up gems?

On the other hand, Rosen acknowledged that the Academy is the golden goose. Would a new gaffer be a bit part in the machine, taking the products of the Academy, with a smattering of recruited, ready made talent, and be expected to build a competitive team? The idea that the manager becomes an interchangeable part of the whole must be appealing, now the owners have seen the damage that removing a 'fingers in all the pies' style manager brings.

I wouldn't say I'm his most adoring fan, particularly not in his second and third stint, but I don't think you can argue with some of your points - regardless of which side of the fence you currently sit.

Considering the restrictions during the transfer window, again I don't think you can argue that he has done ok, we needed some more experience, Donovan aside, players brought in have a proven track record in the division (and some in the PL). I'm even cautiously optimistic that Ayew can make a valuable contribution this season. I am leaning into the idea that perhaps most of his detractors don't have a high footballing intelligence - that's in no way meant to be disrespectful to anyone either. We all watch and follow the game for different reasons.

Anyway, I digress. With Wilder at the helm I'm confident we won't ever be in real danger of dropping out of the Championship, and probably be in the mix most seasons. This year has just been a 'ripping off the band aid' season. Seems like the owners have decided to just get the financial situation reined in in one swoop. Hopefully means we will have a bit more room to manoeuvre next year. A lot of players out of contract too, I haven't checked who but hopefully a good chance to clear our some of the high earning plodders.

So your saying those detractors don’t include ex professional full semi and amateur players ?
people that played and where coached at good to very good to elite levels as well a people who have an extremely high level of knowledge of the game and or conditioning

10 games. That's the point at which I'll start panicking if things haven't really turned. Today's result won't worry me too much, unless it's a battering. Get the much touted International Break out the way and a couple more games, then we'll have a decent sample size to infer from, and see if the return of Seriki, Oné and Chong make a notable difference.

Don’t know much about Corberan but from what I’ve seen and heard from Mousinho, I’d be happy with that choice.

I’m going to be open. I’m a big Wilder fan, I’d never suggest he was the best football manager ever but I know that whilst ever he’s in charge we have a man making decisions with the future of the club in mind. I also know that any team he puts out will give everything, I would happily see him stay for the next 10 years.

I know there’s plenty who would like to see him go, I’m intrigued who those who would see him gone would want to see replace him. Who realistically could do a better job for us?

I agree with this. I’m not shouting for his head but this squad is better than that, the players as individuals are better than that. Surely someone could get them to keep possession even for a short period.

We can't run before we can walk and imho there needs to be a restructuring before we could appoint someone like the younger European managers others have.

Remember when it sadly went stale for Bassett, Kendall came in and the players kept possession, passed and moved.
Different scenario but it can be done. It's getting the right man, or woman.

Brereton-Diaz is completely cooked as a footballer and Phillips is on a serious downswing. Now you can blame Wilder for signing them perhaps, absolutely, but the idea that this is a play-off worthy squad (I realise I'm putting words in your mouth, I'm speaking generally) is fanciful in the extreme.
