Gazza at the Lane, I think we lost 3.2 (?). Best player on the pitch by a country mile 😍. I was young though so my judgement may have been clouded by his brilliance 🙂
2-0 it was and I agree entirely, never seen a player runa game like that from start to finish.
My other one is Obefemi Martins for Newcastle unplayable as was Dean Saunders against us earlier on in his career.
Mentions for Phil Neville (Everton) and Scholes Man utd who had magnificent games at the Lane.

These are all at the Lane. Away was Best at Old Trafford, changed a tight game between the top 2 in the league with sheer genius.

Never saw a player look some comfortable as Gilberto Silva for Arsenal when they beat us 3-0 in the cup at the Lane. Could've played with a lit cigar in his gob.

Roy Keane, September 1st landsdown rd Dublin v Holland, World cup qualifier, ran the game, complete midfield performance. Dutch team of van nistelroy, overmars, van de sar, Stam, hasslebank etc. Ireland where down to 10 Men for last 35 min's of the game

I remember him away where we lost 4-0 and in the league cup when we lost 2-0. He was superb.

Also, lineker in the league cup game. His movement was incredible, non-stop, constant quick runs and sprints. Ideal for a genius like PG.

As a young teen I had the pleasure of being told to “Fuck off” by the great Pat Jennings when asking for his autograph. Beat that!
Sheffield Station. Bobby Moore, can I have your autograph " Fak off"
" That's a no then "
Should be in Twats Thread.

I saw that game on t.v and Keane's display that day is the single most Impressive I've ever seen from a player

I was hugely disappointed with Lineker every time I saw him live.

That I've seen live? George Best, Ronaldo would have to be in the conversation, I think Gascoigne if he had avoided injury could have been the worlds best at the time. But for me Best shades it.

On face value I get that, but I remember dad saying to me ''just watch lineker for ten minutes'' so I did and he dragged Beesley and Morris out of position all night so come the last ten minutes they were out on their feet. Suffice to say Spurs scored late on. Constant little sprints all night long stretching the defence all night long. My middle lad is a striker and i try to get him to do the same, when he does his team win.

Ian Rush used to be fantastic at that, everybody wondered why Dalglish has so much room. Then he signed for us

Couldn't limit this, so I will go up the pitch, back to front:

Keeper: Peter Schmeichel for Denmark

Defender: The great imperious Franco Baresi

Midfield: I want to say TC, but I saw Michel Platini who was different levels.

Forward: The finest individual performance I ever had the pleasure to see, Marco Van Basten.
Wowsers

Lineker never scored against us

Similar for me. Not biggest surprise as such, but not really knowing how good someone was until I saw them live.
Michael Ballack at BDTBL, 28 October 2007. Every pass was a first time pass. Every pass was to a teammate. We didn't get near him all game (not even Monty :) ). He was phenomenal.
I was gunna say exactly the same, I didn't really rate him before but he didn't seem to get out off first gear, he just cruised through the game, brilliant player

See Glen Hoddle play a few times he was like a Rolls Royce majestic hardly ran fantastic awareness as was Rudd Gullet and just to mention Alan Hanson I re bre seeing albeit on the telly Alan Devonshire pick up the ball from his goal keeper and weave through everyone and score at the other end players like that were rare at the time England in the early/mid seventies was a bit brutal

Rooney against Croatia in the 2004 euros in Lisbon he was only 18, still at Everton and ripping teams apart on the world's 2nd biggest stage , he was as good as Ronaldo if not better in his earlier years for me

Best player I have seen is George Best by a country mile.

Best individual performance- Duncan McKenzie for Everton when they walloped us 3-0 at the Lane in a league Cup tie.

He was unplayable that night.
I’ll second that. Duncan McKenzie was brilliant that game. And George Best was great. Sadly THAT George Best goal at Old Trafford was something special. But if Ted Hemsley hadn’t got injured Bestie wouldn’t have scored it!

Gascoigne for me , saw him score that goal in Euro 96 against the jocks incredible player . And also against us at White Hart Lane in 1990 but acted acted like a complete twat in warm up booting ball into air trying to take piss out of Bassett’s team though that day .
Pre knee injury , a talent & half , if he’d gone to Man Utd would have had a completely different career instead of pissing it up the wall .
Aside from best individual, best team performance I saw was in 93 when Man U win 3-0 at The Lane on a Tues night , we’d beat them twice at The Lane the year before in the league & FA Cup , tore us a new arsehole that night with pace of Giggs & Kanchelskis , one of rare occasions when a lot of the home fans even clapped em em off at the end ,well they did on the John St West , acknowledging a very good team ⚔️
