Silly people being very unfair on Berge
Give the man time and everyone will be calling him a Rolls Royce again!
It's all about context and balance.
Berge is and always will be a Rolls Royce, there's no doubting he's a classy player.
What do they say? form is temporary where as class is permanent, that's why he'll always attract interest from other clubs
and you could imagine him joining a PL club, fitting in well and looking a good player at PL level.
However he's currently a Rolls Royce with occasional engine problems and an old man driving it. Berge is a giant, a man mountain but for some reason struggles with the physical game, he doesnt win as many headers he should and seems to be pushed off the ball easier than he should be, meaning he sometimes rushes his passes.
Agree the criticism is a little unfair because he's coming back from injury
but some of the criticism is down to FRUSTRATION, our fans see how big a player he could be for us.
Fortunately we have other very good players in the squad, so we don't over rely on Berge to have a good game.
He DOES regularly show moments of PL class and DOES have 20 minutes where he stands out and plays really well.
But he also (quite regularly) has games where he hardly touches the ball for 60 minutes, it's as though he's not even on the pitch, which is weird when you're a midfielder.
McAtee was exactly the same before the World Cup break but in the last 3 matches after the World Cup McAtee has stepped up his game.
It's as though McAtee has been on the weights, he looks stronger and more determined, also seems more confident.
He's growing in stature and starting to have phases where he dictates play creating chances.
Maybe Berge can learn something from McAtee's progress?
