Berge

Looked done after 45 minutes today, but still mustered a couple of good runs second half. We don't score a third today without him.

Why Hecky left him out there running on empty though I've no idea. He could've easily ended up injured again.

So Doyle is better than Berge?

Depends which game either of them play. Berge on his day can be outstanding. Doyle is less so but is generally more effective game in game out i.e. more consistent (in.my opinion obviously).

As previously stated I like Berge, but he flatters to deceive. Doyle could be a better player no questions.

Cos 'Hecky' is a baffling Barnsley Bell End at times. Though generally I like him. Fuck knows what goes through his head at times though as common sense seems to fly out of his ears at times. Use your feckin subs Hecky, when your players are knackered.

Again, Berge didn't need to do 90 today and could easily have pulled up with a groin or hamstring injury cos he was going beyond what he needed to do.

He was a mixed bag today anyone saying otherwise had made their mind up before kick off
I’ve been a fan all season, and said he was (on average) poor before that.
My mind was as made up today as it was in all his games this season, when he’s been an asset overall, I’ve concluded.

He’s just too limited a player to sit deep, and this has been evidenced repeatedly. He was poor today, save for the third goal.

Am I the only one who thought Berge looked good today and a real threat on the ball? He's a class act and the more game time he gets the better he'll get.

No, your not that only one that thought that. I thought he did fairly decent today too. I also think he flatters to deceive a lot of the time too. They aren't mutually exclusive.

He's a frustrating player and unfortunately I don't think he will ever reach thr heights at the Lane that we all hope he would do. I will be very happy to be proven wrong though.

I think he may well lose his start based on the last three, with Doyle coming back.

He’s got competition in the advanced role now Mcatee is developing. He’s not good enough for the central role.

Of course, no need to tinker too much with a winning formation.

I thought he did some good things and some bad things
You can judge him on the bad and say he was awful or on the good and say he can change a game or judge him overall and say he was a mixed bag

berge is so frustrating can make runs like he did for the 3rd goal but most of the time looks disinterested as though he doesnt want to be here i do think if we signed a good physical defensive midfielder that would release berge to play off the front 2 where hes much more effective having said that if we received a bid of 15m plus in january i would sell

Imagine, if you will, a player of high quality, destined and earmarked for one of the better clubs in the top divisions of European football. Imagine such a player in our side, in the workaday, thud and blunder of the Championship. What such a player, even at half-pace, would do in these games

Instead, we still have an amazingly high number of our fans who think this lad is such a player. And although he can do the odd really good thing now and again, or even for 10 minutes sometimes, the same old list of excuses trotted out week after week after week.

Today and last week he's not match fit.

Lowe isn't match fit. Compare and contrast.
Absolutely spot on! People are deluded over him. 5 minutes here and there and he’s a world beater. Liverpool are interested nonsense ! Just watched their game …. Despite not playing well Klopp would never stand for not tracking, not heading and not competing. Woopy do he glided past 1 player in the second half…. What about the dummy to nobody? The attempted get a a corner nonsense? He couldn’t hit their player from 2 yards ! Quality is our No29 not a languid put on a show now and again Sandra. He makes us weak in midfield. Once again people will defend him but seriously are we saying 1 glide past and cross into the box is good enough ? We will never get our money back ! That said well done to every other player today for running their arse off and trying…. Players who wanted the shirt. … The kid has talent …. Never doubted that but right now he is nowhere near good enough. The sub who came on for Coventry today in the first 5 mins made Sandra look absolutely terrible.

Nobody is paying £15m for Berge now.

The highest offer in the summer was just over £10m. We’ll be very lucky see a repeat of that.

That's insane- Berge is a class player, he's not fit and for big lad his heading ability is woeful, but he is without doubt quality.

Next few games he well get fitter and fitter and the comparisons with shit players will be well forgotten.

3rd goal was all Sander..
It’s debatable, but not insane. What is in insane is you suggesting Doyle is shit. Ask Pep :).

Berge is a limited footballer. Part of his game is real quality, but it’s a small part.

His list of attributes is very small. Couple with an average engine, the quality part of his game takes some finding.

That said, he’s been good this season now we’ve found his position. He’ll lose the central role now Doyle’s fit. He will compete with McAtee from now on, I suspect.

I don’t dispute that he has been very good and has the potential to be very good again. In his defence I expected him to use the injury 1st half as a way out of the game and he came back on so fair cop for that.

A game with 2 or 3 bits of technical brilliance driving past players isn’t what I think deserves the plaudits though and hence why he was a bit crap for me today.

The Doyle he was talking about was Michael Doyle not Tommy Doyle. Don't get me wrong Berge has been disappointing overall for the price we paid, but I think we will start to see the best of him in the run in, and without doubt he is better than Michael or indeed Tommy Doyle- (but I do like Tommy Doyle).

There’s definitely some doubt that he’s better that Tommy Doyle. There’s at least a debate to be had, and you can bet Pep wouldn’t swap him.

It’s without doubt (for me) that Doyle is a better all round footballer, with better prospects. He perhaps doesn’t have as aspect of his game that stands out as much as Berge.

That's fantastic news. Another quality footballer will remain at the club and make a big contribution to our promotion push
