As you can see from my post above I am split and see all sides without taking any sides either! I find it much easier when we've got the John Lundstram situation when it's easier to say good riddance but Berge has always been the ultimate professional. I wish him well in his career and I can't fathom that joining Burnley is something he wants to do, even the good folk of Burnley probably don't want to live there!

The club can’t make a player do anything. If his agent tells him to sit in his arse and wait out his contract then he will do that.

However a transfer means a pay day for his agent. So 99% of the time a player will do that.

They can tell him he won’t be training with the first team. Again we are not unique in that regard.

The lack of any remote understanding of football contracts astounds me. And the fascination to believe the absolute worst of the club at any opportunity.

You still have to replace Berge for someone ,and and anyone who's not a downgrade is going to cost at least that same amount. Plus that new players wages over 3-4 years and as you say it will take time for them to adapt to our style and no guarentee they wouldn't be a flop anyway.

By the same token, what level of loan player could we get for 15 mill? Or a couple of 7 mill loans?
 
Ask yourself this, if it was just about greed, size of club and money why is he then making a somewhat sideways move to Burnley?

Hecky didn't want us to sell he had stated as much several times. Reasoning that for the money we will get we will not be able to bring in anywhere like the quality Berge offers and he is already used to how we play

IMO Berge has finally got to grips with the English game, was just starting to hold his own and look the real part in the middle. He has been our best player by far in pre season and the only one to look remotely capable of thriving at the level we will be playing at. He has looked fitter and stronger then ever. Selling him on the eve of the season to a team we have just been promoted with is absolute lunacy and it is obvious it will have a highly negative effect on the coaching staff and playing squad.

I do agree his fitness record is a concern but if he does stay fit I predict he will do very well at burnley and we will be made to look stupid for selling him them that cheap.

Those doubting the board would force him out are very blinkered in that the club has form for doing this previously so it doesn't exactly make it hard to believe

He's in a position (both financially and employment wise) where he doesn't need to pursue such a case but nevertheless, that's what it amounts to. A contract is a contract. Both sides should be prepared to honour it unless there is agreement between both parties to end it. And that's agreement without bullying or harrasment in any form. I suspect there are other players at the club who are seriously asking themselves what sort of club they are employed by and are questioning what they are doing here. Not many of them have the same attachment to Utd as we have. I think those with some amount of ability will be gone at the first opportunity - if not actively looking for that opportunity themselves - because it looks like it is a very toxic club at the moment .

If he was to take to ET for Unfair Constructive Dismissal, and he was to win (it won't get to tribunal until 2025 at the moment), how much do you actually think he would win? He could resign and make the claim or he could continue to work under protest. He would need to go through the club grievance policy first before as well. If he worked under protest the award would be minimal, if he resigned he would need to show he looked for another job - Burnley have offered him one. He has three years service so at best the award would be 3 weeks capped at £643 per week. Plus £500 for loss of statutory rights. Also, there is that little clause in his contract that says if he goes to tribuanl they will just pay him what the award would be. Don't think the club would lose too much sleep at £2500.

Yes, from his perspective it makes no sense which is why I said he doesn't need to pursue it. The point was more that it's not really how I want my club to behave. Treat your players and employees with some professionalism and dignity and understand that they are human beings.

I don't see much of a debate around that (are they or aren't they) - more whether we morally should be doing it or not.

I'm not convinced staying for the last year of your contract and walking away for free demonstrates any loyalty, in reality. I strongly question the motives there.

I also don't see that signaling to players that they shouldn't come here if they intend to do so is a bad thing either.

No I agree it doesn't. But letting players contracts dwindle down and forcing people out of the door does not scream loyalty either and I'm sure players are well aware how clubs treat other players

I think the videos and social media presence are crucial in pulling in the younger generation of fans and help ensure our longevity.

I don’t pertain to understand the youth, but equally no one forces anyone to watch / read all the media around signings and outgoings
