CONFIRMED Berge to Burnley

A £15m deal in itself is a very decent deal for us. Let's be honest he wasn't much cop for the majority of time in the Championship, and pretty much the entirety of the time in the Premier League. It was too much of a gamble to lose him for nothing in the hope that he may actually turn up this time around.

To a relegation rival though, while we have no players, especially in midfield. Crackers. Unless we have some quality midfielders seriously lined up with the money.

"Significant sell-on fee" wets the lips. Hopefully we included the same for Ndiaye.

I'm not surprised Berge is our top earner and I'm not surprised or he could get more money elsewhere. Fundamentally (as disappointed as I am he is leaving) a contract is a contract and if we can get 15m for him then it's good business

£15M for someone in his final year isn't awful. Hopefully we have a real rebuild of the midfield now before Palace. Not go in incredibly weakened.

Give Slimane some better options next to Souza, if that is a done deal. - Add maybe; Hamer, Smallbone, O'Brien. Godforbid; Maca and Doyle via on-loan🤞

The "significant sell-on clauses" - can someone more ITK explain, say 20% or?

Not ITK but 20 to 35%+ would satisfy the use of the term significant for me. 5 to 15% is usually a standard sell on clause isn't it.

I liked Berge but I cannot see him commanding a £15 million transfer fee again nevermind what we paid for him. When he leaves Burnley he will be going for a lot less. It will be interesting to see how he gets on there.

Honestly, the Berge-slander. I'm not saying he's perfect, but he was too good for the Championship & better than the grief people give him. Actually, anyone else in that midfield.

I wouldn't mind 20-to-35% - Say Burnley have a clause saying we get an additional £1M or so if they survive. Even other "bonuses"...

Berge is a cracking player. I think £15 is fair. He will thrive for burnely with kompanies footballing philosophy. I can totally understand the reason for him wanting to leave. He could have waited a year and gone to a better club but at least this move gives us some money to play with. Timing is shit though.

I don’t like that he’s left but replacing with Hamer or similar would mean it’s not a bad move. I wish him all the best, great player.

I have had chance to calm down since yesterday's breaking news regarding Berge. If its true that we have tried to have contract talks on numerous occasions and that he has been offered a very good deal but still won't have talks, then it is time for him to go!

I however, will never understand us selling him to Burnley. I personally think we should be actively inviting other teams to make a bid to match Burnley's 12m.

I also have no idea why Berge would want to play for Burnley, unless the contract they have offered him is ridiculous. Maybe he wants to go so he can cut 30 minutes off his drive to Manchester to get his instagram pictures with Haaland.

Overall I'm a big fan of Berge but deep down we all know he's not lived up to expectations. Maybe as a fan base we expected too much from what he's actually capable of. He's definitely replaceable.
Aye
The Burnley that finished above us last season;
The Burnley that are strengthening last season’s side
The Burnley that have a high(er) profile (media darling) gaffer - no slight on PH
The Burnley that are (currently ?) financially stable - certainly present better than us ?
The Burnley that presents as organised focussed & prepared for the challenges of next season?
That Burnley ?

Very good points, not going to argue them

I don't really get the issues over this & the Ndiaye sale. We could have planned a bit better with Berge, but both refused to sign deals despite numerous offers so we couldn't keep them anyhow. 15m for Berge is a decent return given he can walk next year.

Whatever your opinions are on the current situation, I don't think it can be argued that Hecky is handling this with absolute class & like a true pro.
Taking it like a Champ!

Anyone know how much we paid for him?

I know 22m was a reported fee but I’m struggling to believe that was not including some incentives and given we went down during his first full season and only went back up on his 4th. It wasn’t as if he didn’t miss a large number of games either.

So is it a 7m loss potentially mitigated further by a couple of million potentially in the future? Or is it far less, as the 22m was not reached?

Flip side of course is that we probably have Boreham Wood or Rising Ballers some bibs and balls and got 20m plus sell ons for Ndiaye.

This one doesn't hurt like the Iliman deal and we're probably sensible to get a fee while we can. The timing is still awful, but hey ho.

Ndiaye and Berge in our squad and I think we'd have had a very good chance of staying up. Berge on his own is not enough to keep us up I'm afraid, so doesn't justify us letting him leave for nothing next year.

I actually think he'll flop at Burnley. He'll want to play in holding midfield and I don't think he has the attributes to excel in that position in the Premier League. He'd have been better off moving to La Liga or Serie A where it's less blood and thunder and midfielders are permitted a bit more time on the ball. Hope he proves me wrong because I like the lad, but there's a reason why multiple managers haven't played him as the sitting CM.

Not sure on the fees but 3 years of Sander with a play-off semi final and promotion is fine by me for 7m, even more so if we can now buy Doyle/Hamer with the money returned.

If true it’s very difficult to say we’ve not got a good deal for Sander in his last contracted season. Many would have taken £15m last season nevermind this.

What sucks big hairy balls is that it’s happened this late and we can’t recover before the season starts. IF Hammer can be acquired for under £10m then with Souza it could look a good deal, but we sure like making things hard for ourselves and there’s still a huge Ily shaped hole in the team.
Much work to be done.
