GLTTL.

Don’t understand the animosity.

Nantes option is for us to recoup almost all what we laid out.

What a fucking novelty that would be given the millions spunked in recent years !!

We recoup all after the loan fee is paid😉

Good luck to him though, just not the type of player that suit United, bit to small and definitely not up to speed with the English game, hope he does better in onion country.

That's what I don't understand.

What if he scores 15 goals there and is a huge hit? We just get back what we paid for? Hope there is a sell-on clause.

Wish him well
Not really given a chance in a side that was not fit for purpose and had at most 20% possession very difficult to make an impact in that situation. Think he may have done well in the Championship but we will never know

Let’s face it they aren’t going to buy him are they.

I can’t even see the Nantesy boys liking him.

GLTTL, bizarre that we are seemingly binning him off after only six months. What have we seen in a few months that has convinced us to cut our losses already?

What weren't you a fan of?
He didn’t look good enough from his ‘highlights’ reel in a league that’s pretty poor and barely registers in the top 30 in Europe. Not technical or fast enough to overcome his lack of physicality.

The reported fee of 4m i feel was too much of an outlay for him. A lot of that will be performance based add-ons but even still i just thought he looked average.

He will have a reasonable career but I honestly feel league 1 or equivalent is most likely his level.

Be interesting to see how he does at Nantes. Good luck to him.

When you’ve got Jebbison, Osula, Oné and Marsh, I’d like to know who concluded “what we need is another one like them, apart from much smaller!”
No. We could probably get some smaller, but ideally we want some much, much better.

I haven't seen the details of this so if his form continues for Nantes he'll still be ours (Ie the decision to sign is theirs) I suspect

He looked good in Sweden on the highlights but what concerned me was that he was doing well on the counter with space because in the PL whether it's Luton or man city all teams are so well organised shape wise and there's not much space. Traore just lacked to have the required close control here in his matches where he started. He was one on one a few times with his opposite defender but over hit the ball or gave it away.

On the other hand it was a cheap signing at £4m, that's not much money these days and you can't even get a decent championship player for that these days. He was bought as a development player, quite possibly by the recruitment model rather than by Hecky given Hecky hardly played him too. But because he's young and didn't cost much we should be able to recoup the money for him unless he's dire at Nantes.

Why’s everyone saying this was the worst signing ever?

We signed a young prospect, for what would’ve been an unbelievable price if he’d have worked out.
We got him here, we worked with him, we realised it was a gamble that didn’t pay off and seem to have recouped what we paid

Go smash it Benie , lovely lad , just not ready for prem , was always struggling because of his stature , who ever signed the lad really could do with some retraining .

I forgot he was Nantes manager. My greatest Champ Manager 97/98 game was with Nantes and Gourvennec was a star (local) player. Pointless and uninteresting. But I've said it.

GLTTL (and Benie too).
Also playing now as Nantes and can tell you Benie wouldn't get a game for me 😂

It was an atrocious bit of business, not necessarily because Benie isn't up to it, but because, with the budget we had, we should have invested the £2-4m (whatever the figures were) in a smaller fee/higher wage Kiefer Moore 'type'.

The sort of striker that may not have shook the world for us, but would have at least been provenly able to compete physically and mentally and follow tactical instruction.

Maybe if we'd done that then then we wouldn't have had to rely on starting the season with a strike force with a combined collection of 3.62 senior goals and then, when McBurnie and Archer came back/in not then have been chucking the same kids off the bench at 70mins to try and drag us out of the mire on at least half a dozen occasions this season.

We'd almost certainly still have been in/around the bottom 3 but maybe the gun wouldn't have been loaded and the barrel not quite so pressed against our noses.

We were never in a position to make the gamble we did with our attacking spend and no amount of loss cutting, book balancing or fee recouping will claw back any of the points we may have got if we'd signed someone remotely capable instead.

Not Benie fault really. He was targeted by us and lured in by us playing in the PL. Not to mention he thought he was going to be playing with the likes of N'Diaye.

It's not quite worked out, but then again after signing archer, McAtee and McBurnie being back fit he was going to have more limited minutes.

Good luck to him seemed like a nice lad.
Least we are pretty much recouping what we've paid.

He looked like he thought he won the lottery in his “Signing Day” video!

Seems a nice kid, wish him all the best. A shame we’ve not done our due diligence before splashing out.
