I have no fascination with him either but we do need some kind of attacking midfielder to help out Duffy. Holmes is not good enough for Duffys replacement.

We are definitely short there. I'd say our best attack minded midfielder at the moment that's not Duffy is Evans, which is ok but he'll be on the pitch already assuming we don't change things formation wise.

Maybe Lundstram could play in the Coutts role occasionally and Evans for Duffy if Duffy still has similar stamina issues, but it's not ideal.

I'd take any light on their feet premier league ball carrier type to be honest, someone that can pass people and get something in the box, I bet there are loads kicking their heels in the PL academies.

Woodburn would be a glamour signing though as he has recognition. Would give us an air of "we're not fucking about" haha

Another one bites the dust

Not really, he`ll still go out on loan.

Liverpool are just looking at him in the first team environment, like we have done with Slater, Smith & Norrington-Davies.
The loan window is open until the end of Aug, so plenty of time after the cut off for permanent deals (Aug 9th)

You say another one. Which others have bitten the dust given we’ve brought in our primary targets in goal and central defence and are still in for Gallagher and Waghorn? Hogan is perhaps one but no need for despair just yet.

“Jimmy White’s Deadline Day Army.” All together now: “Jimmy White’s...

A bit confused with the fascination with Woodburn. He’s 18 and not done a great deal yet. Whoever signs him would be taking a big risk I believe.
So he’s not done a great deal yet and you think he should be going to an higher established club than ours?

Chris Wilder and his team don't do risks. They will know more about young Ben than he knows himself. 'Due dilligence' doesn't come close to how thorough they are in player selection.

Chill out, it was more a figure of speech more than anything. We do need someone who can play in Duffys position to help him out. Holmes is not the answer.

Some Blades don't despair because they NEED to - it's a default choice

You don’t get that close to the first team of a top PL side at his age if you don’t have something about you.

From the SSN page:

WOODBURN TO VILLA?

Aston Villa are looking to secure a season long loan deal for Liverpool’s Wales international Ben Woodburn, according to Sky sources.

Jurgen Klopp is a big admirer of the player but also thinks a season at the right club would be advantageous.

Villa are not the only club in for him, we understand an approach from Wigan was rejected and Sheffield United are also keen.

Bastards

Don't Liverpool put financial sanctions into the loans they do? I'm sure CW wouldn't go near it if they insist he plays or essentially fine us for not playing him.

I’ll tell you why, simply they are prepared to pay more for his services.

You’re Welcome

Of course, we could hope that they will be more interested in his personal development in which case I reckon we would be the better bet. But I won’t hold my breath

If you’re Liverpool, Woodburn will be on relatively little pay and the financial concerns will be minimal. They are chiefly concerned with their loan players playing and progressing – that’s what would influence any financial penalties for not playing a player, not some concern over getting more cash in.

I really don’t get Liverpool insisting players should play.

Part of a players growth is being dropped when not playing well and spending time on the bench/sidelines.

It does a player no good at all if his confidence bottoms out and he continues to play.

And still I would see him getting more match time with us than Villa

Bit like Hammond

Does 'have to play' mean starts or does it include off the bench in these agreements?
