He's very highly rated and I think scored for Wales at least once. He's also chosen Wales despite being born and lived in England all his life - lie Brooks, but presumably drank a pint of Brains once and qualified ha ha! I know Brooks's mum is Welsh before anyone says owt, only joking!

In case of interest, this was a piece a while back that explains the Talent Identification Programme brought in by Wales. Woodburn’s been in and around the set-up for quite a while, and they always encourage players to spend time in the other nation’s set-up before committing: https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport...ws/compelling-inside-story-how-wales-13591497

Looking at their forum, he is highly rated but has suffered from injury and growth spurts over the past year to 18 months. He has reached the stage where he is too good for the U-23 but not experienced enough for the senior team, plus he hasn’t nailed down a position yet. He can do a job anywhere from midfield to attack.
Casey Jones appears to their top rave of young prospects. Take Woodburn this year and Jones next.

Wouldn't think this was possible with all the hype there's been around him for years now, seems his stock as fallen slightly.
Would be a great signing if we can pull it off and Wilder can get him playing with pashun.

Papers today are saying that Rangers have first choice of anyone that Liverpool send out on loan. If he’s not good enough for Rangers.......
I'd suggest that Rangers wouldn't be able to afford him. First dibs is fair enough, but they'll need to meet the asking price/wage contribution too.

Looks very similar to Brooks, Welsh and 18 too. Gerrim in!

Liverpool will look at us like many and say they aren’t an established premiership team just yet. They will be unsure whether one season wonder etc. We all know we will probably be better.

But when we came up the fans expectations where high but other clubs were saying we had no chance it’s same again and it’s there perception that is wrong.

Only way to change it is to establish ourselves in this division.
There's definitely a chance we can sign him.

There's a lot of speculation that is being accepted as 'FACT' on this thread.

I saw this lad play the same weekend as Brooks did when he made his debut for Wales. I thought he was better than Brooks (in that particular game). Looked a lot more assured on the ball. That we’re being mentioned with him pleases me.

Indeed. I just hope someone mentions oral sex now...

A mate of mine is an actual genuine Liverpool fan 100% not ITK, but according to some sauces if he doesn't travel to USA on their pre season thing tonight he will be signing for us over anyone else (leeds and Norwich also interested). BUT they have that stupid play him or we'll fine you clause thing. I personally cant see wilder being told what to do by anyone except his missis.

I'm sure I've seen somewhere that the Liverpool fine clause is a bit overstated and not a massive barrier to securing their talent.

They charge a far lower loan fee in the interim and even if said player flopped, didn't play and we were charged the full "fine" then it is still only comparable to the loan fees that say Chelsea charge up front for their young talent so you either get a quality player, he plays and we pay a lot less or he flops and we end up paying the same that we would to the other big clubs.

Imo I can see why they’d stixk that clause in - they want him to get the minutes in and play.

That said wilder has a duty of care to the lad as well as the club. Why would you want to stick an 18 year old on every game it’s risk burning him out or destroying his confidence if he’s struggling. I would think the way we treated Blackman and CCV - knowing they had to play well to stay in the side would be preferable as it’s proper completion..

That said I think Woodburn has every chance to make an impact for us. I’d be very pleased if we got him and would look forward to watching him.

These are the sort of loans we should be doing - huge clubs where unless they are world class they are just not gonna get chances. Be good to develop relationships with them and put us in the picture for potentially eventually making the move permanent

I take your point on Wales's talent identification programme but in my view Brooks is more English than Welsh and I can't help but think that he should have stuck with England but we'll see. I can't say what I would have done to be fair in the same circumstances and I think Wales have being on the crest of a wave at a time when England have being particularly poor but in reality by committing for Wales he'll never win a tournament and frequently won't even qualify for a major tournament but saying that you can argue that he wouldn't get the caps for England.

He can still switch. He's not played competitively for Wales yet. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he develops as rapidly in the Prem as he did in the Championship if he doesn't buy his Mum some flowers to apologise and give Southgate a ring.

Don’t know much about the guy, but if he is being brought in to challenge Duffy then he will get the required games I would think. after 70 mins Duffy can look spent and often I’ve thought needed resting, so they may rotate starts (if he’s any good of course).

I don’t disagree with the fine thing per se as you want the lad to play, but if he’s shit like the guy Cardiff signed on loan from them, can’t remeber the name, then obviously the fine would be a loss take

Their last match there is on the 28th so we'll have to wait at least another 8 days for him.

Hideously, they're playing Man City and Man Utd over there. Fierce rivalries, eh?

Wait till these games are being played in China during the winter break these clubs have been crying out for.

A bit confused with the fascination with Woodburn. He’s 18 and not done a great deal yet. Whoever signs him would be taking a big risk I believe.
