Apologies silent you are correct
Bobby Gould sent his scout to buy the short coloured left back and he came back with the tall white centre forward that we eventually signed.
Naughty naughty! Cant be using the wrong words!!

We signed him from Newport then Danny Bergara took him to Stockport before selling him to WBA. We had two players called Fred Smith in the early 1950s. Man City signed one of them but he didnt play many games. Blades fans reckoned at the time that Man City had signed the wrong Fred Smith!

Gary Stevens was once called up for the England squad when it was meant to be Trevor Steven .

If it's £5m and the wages can be brought down to something more in-line with our top-earner structure, signing Davies is a no-brainer.
So common sense on this thread.
Everyone is fixated that Liverpool only paid £500k. So what they have massive pulling power.
if SJ wants a top championship CB then we pay the asking price.

Why do people presume that BD is on massive wages at Liverpool? He's hardly likely to have been earning big money at Preston, and knowing that he was only ever intended as an emergency back up signing Liverpool would only have needed to increase his wages a little in order to tempt him to Anfield. At best they would have needed to match the proposed salary from other prospective buyers - us, and I can't imagine we were offering him the £60k per week that I've seen quoted!

I'd always been under the impression that Liverpool were pretty 'low' payers but heavy on incentives and bonuses. Certainly not top end wages wise.

They aren't compared to the likes of City and Chelsea. I'd still suspect he's on £40-60k pw which is out of our ballpark unless we're loaning.

yeah surely it can only be a loan with a view to buy if we get promoted unless of course rammy and or berge are sold in which case i think we would pay the 5m asking price

For the club to put out the presser where Jokanovic mentions that he is interested in Davies then it must be close. Surely the club don’t put something out that is just a rumour?

I think Slav, who is definitely a Bond Villain in waiting, just needs to get on the phone to Klopp and tell him he's got less than a day to deliver Ben Davies or he's going to be firing up the Lazer pointing directly towards his gonads.

"No, Mr Davies, I expect you to sign."

Or it will be

"Goodbye Mr Klopp."

I was told he was close to signing a pre contract with Celtic in Jan before moving on a free in the summer.. they were offering him £30kpw

of course this doesn’t help with what he’s really on at Liverpool but surely they didn’t come in and double the contract he was about to sign

Tonight simply reinforced what was already known.

1. Robinson is not big, tough or good enough with Davies being the obvious answer otherwise Utd will again concede loads from balls into the box

2. You can have all the strikers in the world but without any creativity in midfield, they will be feeding on scraps. Elliott or similar would make a huge difference.

3. I hope SJ takes Norwood off set pieces - they are woeful - no whip/pace on the ball, far too many hit the first man

4. RND has a real chance of making the LB position his own if he returns prior to Stevens

Fleck offered nothing again and Norwood plays some wonderful balls across our back four.
Osborn and Robinson are not big enough or strong enough to defend in a physical league and we have no one who kicks ass in the middle of get park.
surprisingly I thought Burke played well

Andy Robertson out for 8-12 weeks. Be interesting to see if Davies still allowed to leave..

Could we trade them Enda for Davies going the other way on loan? it’d be a proper weird transfer but could actually make sense if they only saw clips of him from 19/20 season!

The Reds have made one thing clear to Slavisa Jokanovic’s side though: they would prefer a permanent deal for the centre-back.

Although both Davies and Sheffield United are both said to be keen on this move, it’s currently unclear whether the Blades are holding out for a loan deal, although talks between the player and Jokanovic are set to continue according to the Sheffield star

The Verdict:
Although they are yet to sell Aaron Ramsdale and Sander Berge so far this summer, they are probably one of the best-equipped sides in the Championship to make permanent
And with Liverpool potentially prepared to negotiate a cut-price deal with the Blades just to get him off the books at Anfield, there’s no reason why they shouldn’t be able to make a permanent move for him if they desperately want to bring the 25-year-old to Bramall Lane.
They seem to have negotiated a loan-to-buy deal for fellow target Ronaldo Vieira as well, so it’s hard to imagine they’ve spent a large chunk of their budget if they manage to get a deal for the midfielder over the line.
This should provide them with the resources needed to push this transfer through and in terms of planning for the long-term future, a permanent move might be the best option for Sheffield United.

I just cannot see how we will overcome the wages issue. I don't quite believe the 60k a week which is online, but i wouldn't be surprised if he is on 30k-40k which would make him our top earner by quite a long way.

I feel the only way this will happen is by Liverpool subsidising his wages with a full transfer fee (£5m?) or just a straight loan fee covering his wages with option to buy if we go up

This won't happen if we won't so called pay for viera how will the Prince sanction this but spend 1 million on a player for beerschot .

Beerschot is a different entity with different budgets from different pots. At some point people might realise that.

This seems to me that we're trying to play hardball on a player who doesn't seem to want to sign for us and with a club who doesn't particularly want him to leave. The club happens to be one of the biggest in the world. I'm getting deja-vu.
