He didn’t sign as he did not fancy the wages he would have been on if we had been relegated. We were relegated and he would now be on only slightly more than he was at Preston.
he was in the last six months of his contract and the fee was not a problem

He had an issue with earning more money only to get relegated and still be earning more money?

Hard life, innit!

He had the choice, football or money.

This is the problem, financial security in an unstable environment like football where you're a reckless tackle away from being finished always wins.

You lot are drunk. Why would Ben Davies, the guy who didn't want to sign for us last season because we wouldn't pay him enough, leave Liverpool to sit on our bench.

Why would we, a Championship club, pay £5 million for a player who will eventually sit on a bench.
JOC will be out for a while won't he. Therefore, its plausible that by the time he is back they are two players competing for a Premier League place.

No one is drunk, they just aren't so prone to strange, categoric statements about things that can't possibly known as we sit here today.

I can categorically state that neither Ben Davies or JOC will be happy sitting on a Championship bench.

I get the point but this is how football goes and it tends to be why footballers leave clubs if they fail to get back in the team after absence.

10 million and the fee not a problem !
Really ?

£10m was the quoted price in the summer wasn't it? Preston went into 20/21 harbouring promotion hopes so played hardball.

Liverpool signed him for £500k rising to £1.6m. He held out for their bid as he didn't want to join us to effectively end up back where he started.

Loan or loan-to-buy for a season is a different matter.

I wonder how much he’ll end up costing Liverpool? £500k to Preston then a signing on fee as well as wages and possibly a signing off fee and agents fees.

He was never sold for £10m last season which is what I am referring to as the figure was £500k - £1.6m as quoted by my learned friend.
I have no idea where the figure of £10m comes from

We were quoted £10 mill by Preston for him

I can categorically state that neither Ben Davies or JOC will be happy sitting on a Championship bench.
And I can categorically state that neither of them will for the vast majority of this season should Davies sign.

When Jack’s back he plays left wing in the new formation.

Liverpool are ready to let seldom-seen Ben Davies leave on loan with Celtic, Bournemouth and Sheffield United all interested, as reported by Goal.

Two weeks ago, The Athletic claimed Liverpool had no interest in parting with the 26-year-old just seven months after snapping him up in a shock deadline-day deal from Preston North End.

Has Davies forced Jurgen Klopp’s hand knowing he’s likely to be behind Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konate and potentially Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams in Liverpool’s pecking order next season?

As it stands, the reason behind Liverpool’s sudden U-turn remains a mystery.

Apologies silent you are correct
Bobby Gould sent his scout to buy the short coloured left back and he came back with the tall white centre forward that we eventually signed.

Nor sure the transfer fee of £4m (if correct) would be the major stumbling block to any deal. My thoughts are that his current long contract and very handsome weekly wages with the Liverpool are what could make this tricky to conclude as suddenly the overall transfer package starts becoming very expensive. Unless the Scousers help financially (unlikely) or the lad drops his wages significantly (why would he?) then it's gunna be pricey unless its a loan deal which might be achievable. The lads personal terms make this deal difficult and probably not the transfer fee.

The £10m is the figure Preston told us they wanted last summer

We signed him from Newport then Danny Bergara took him to Stockport before selling him to WBA. We had two players called Fred Smith in the early 1950s. Man City signed one of them but he didnt play many games. Blades fans reckoned at the time that Man City had signed the wrong Fred Smith!
