You got the wrong Ben Davies!
We signed him from Newport then Danny Bergara took him to Stockport before selling him to WBA. We had two players called Fred Smith in the early 1950s. Man City signed one of them but he didnt play many games. Blades fans reckoned at the time that Man City had signed the wrong Fred Smith!
So common sense on this thread. If it's £5m and the wages can be brought down to something more in-line with our top-earner structure, signing Davies is a no-brainer.
Exactly. The price they paid is irrelevant. How much did Brentford pay for Egan?So common sense on this thread.
Everyone is fixated that Liverpool only paid £500k. So what they have massive pulling power.
if SJ wants a top championship CB then we pay the asking price.
Why do people presume that BD is on massive wages at Liverpool? He's hardly likely to have been earning big money at Preston, and knowing that he was only ever intended as an emergency back up signing Liverpool would only have needed to increase his wages a little in order to tempt him to Anfield. At best they would have needed to match the proposed salary from other prospective buyers - us, and I can't imagine we were offering him the £60k per week that I've seen quoted!
I'd always been under the impression that Liverpool were pretty 'low' payers but heavy on incentives and bonuses. Certainly not top end wages wise.
yeah surely it can only be a loan with a view to buy if we get promoted unless of course rammy and or berge are sold in which case i think we would pay the 5m asking priceThey aren't compared to the likes of City and Chelsea. I'd still suspect he's on £40-60k pw which is out of our ballpark unless we're loaning.
Could we trade them Enda for Davies going the other way on loan? it’d be a proper weird transfer but could actually make sense if they only saw clips of him from 19/20 season!Andy Robertson out for 8-12 weeks. Be interesting to see if Davies still allowed to leave..

I just cannot see how we will overcome the wages issue. I don't quite believe the 60k a week which is online, but i wouldn't be surprised if he is on 30k-40k which would make him our top earner by quite a long way.![]()
Sheffield United sent transfer message by Liverpool over 25-year-old target
Former Premier League champions Liverpool would prefer a permanent deal for defender Ben Davies this summer according to The Star, amid strong interest from Sheffield United.footballleagueworld.co.uk
The Reds have made one thing clear to Slavisa Jokanovic’s side though: they would prefer a permanent deal for the centre-back.
Although both Davies and Sheffield United are both said to be keen on this move, it’s currently unclear whether the Blades are holding out for a loan deal, although talks between the player and Jokanovic are set to continue according to the Sheffield star
The Verdict:
Although they are yet to sell Aaron Ramsdale and Sander Berge so far this summer, they are probably one of the best-equipped sides in the Championship to make permanent
And with Liverpool potentially prepared to negotiate a cut-price deal with the Blades just to get him off the books at Anfield, there’s no reason why they shouldn’t be able to make a permanent move for him if they desperately want to bring the 25-year-old to Bramall Lane.
They seem to have negotiated a loan-to-buy deal for fellow target Ronaldo Vieira as well, so it’s hard to imagine they’ve spent a large chunk of their budget if they manage to get a deal for the midfielder over the line.
This should provide them with the resources needed to push this transfer through and in terms of planning for the long-term future, a permanent move might be the best option for Sheffield United.
What difference does an injury to Liverpool's first choice left back make to the prospects of their seventh choice centre half leaving?Andy Robertson out for 8-12 weeks. Be interesting to see if Davies still allowed to leave..
This won't happen if we won't so called pay for viera how will the Prince sanction this but spend 1 million on a player for beerschot .
And he has hit the ground running, scored on his debut on Sat and scored again last nite, and cost 25% of what we paid for Brewster, who scored last nite after a long long very long time.
Silly haircut though. And he has hit the ground running, scored on his debut on Sat and scored again last nite, and cost 25% of what we paid for Brewster, who scored last nite after a long long very long time.
