Barnsley have a couple in Woodrow and styles I like and they have a young goal keeper aswell. They’re doing very well by their standards this season and are a selling club.We might be better off trying to pick up the cream from League 1 for relative peanuts, and the top players for teams in the bottom half of the championship (so they know there is no chance of them playing in the PL next season either way).
As for Davies, obviously he either fancies it or he doesnt. Appreciate that he might want to hold on now for another 6 months and see what's out there in the summer. We are down, and the whole footballing world knows it. For me, that's a bigger issues to resolve, rather than the issue of wages. Utd could for example, offer PNE a fee agreed to be paid in the summer, and the player a wage now and a wage reduction when we go down, inine with the existing players we have. What we could do however to make it more attractive for the lad, is to agree to give him a lump sum of signing on fee up front. That way his weekly wage will go down later this year, but he's already had a nice juicy signing on fee sat in his bank account. There are ways and means around things provided all parties agree and want to make it happen. But there's the rub. Do they?
Neither nowhere near good enough to get in our team.Barnsley have a couple in Woodrow and styles I like and they have a young goal keeper aswell. They’re doing very well by their standards this season and are a selling club.
Even Woodrow? His goals record isn’t bad for a striker who’s played a lot of positions other than as a 9 I was thinking of him as a long term Didzy replacement type of player.Neither nowhere near good enough to get in our team.
Brewster 11/22 & Mcburnie 24 up front on his own. Woodrow is tidy but take his penalties away, he can’t get near them. Styles, like Mowatt, is skilful but small, and both lack pace to play higher.Even Woodrow? That’s a fair assessment I guess if we go back to 10 we don’t necessarily need a link man type striker and McBurnie has those skills too. Ipswich seem to have a pretty young team this year I wonder if we’ll revive our interest in someone like woolfenden. Dozzel has also seen significant minutes this year he might finally be starting to come good after significant hype as a 16-17 year old.Brewster 11/22 & Mcburnie 24 up front on his own. I dont think we can afford to pump more money in the striking department. midfield needs investment the mostEven Woodrow? His goals record isn’t bad for a striker who’s played a lot of positions other than as a 9 I was thinking of him as a long term Didzy replacement type of player.
I’d agree midfield is in crisis right now but if we don’t put in place some forward planning we’re going to have another crisis when bashams legs go and another crisis if we don’t find a Didzy replacement or go with a number 10 instead because then we will have literally no flair.I dont think we can afford to pump more money in the striking department. midfield needs investment the most
We ve got no flair now and it didn't se to worry CW in the summer. Im not sure he wants these Eze, Buendia, Benrahama, Cantwell type players or we woild have signed one by now. And its not because we cant afford them as we spent 20m+ on Brewster.I’d agree midfield is in crisis right now but if we don’t put in place some forward planning we’re going to have another crisis when bashams legs go and another crisis if we don’t find a Didzy replacement or go with a number 10 instead because then we will have literally no flair.
We don’t have very much flair now I don’t disagree. I’m not sure it’s that wilder doesn’t want that type of player we have used them in the past. I don’t know if we could’ve afforded cantwell or Buendia because they haven’t moved so I can’t draw comparisons or know what Norwich were asking. As to eze yeah we could’ve afforded him I think but his messaging was clear from the start that he wanted to stay in London. We ve got no flair now and it didn't se to worry CW in the summer. I dont buy the wages argument either, I think that's Wilders modus operandi in that he doesn't want outliers in the wage structure. When you get to the top of any profession you have to accept that the stars, or the revenue generators will earn more than that the workers. Why should Norwood get paid the same as someone like Eze who can change a game at the drop of a hat. Wilder needs to change his approach to this. We could have spent some of Bogle,Lowe, Robinson, Osbourn, Ampadu, et als salaries on Beundia or Eze
you may well be right on the salaries debate it could be that wilder doesnt want anybody on double what others are on but im afraid that policy wont keep a club in the premier league we could well become a yo-yo team like west brom and norwichWe ve got no flair now and it didn't se to worry CW in the summer. Maybe why he was so definite in his refuting of an interest in usGoing to Liverpool![]()
We were reportedly quoted £10m+ weren't we?How come he goes to Liverpool for just £2M what a steal
Hours away from signing a pre-contract with Celtic and leaving for nothing. We were reportedly quoted £10m+ weren't we?
Very strange isn’t itWe were reportedly quoted £10m+ weren't we?
Tell you what, as devastating as the loss of JOC has been, I'm glad he isn't available at the moment as I'm sure he'd have been considered ahead of Davies.
Yeah in the summer when I’d imagine Preston were still harbouring hopes of getting pen to paper on a new deal as he’s one of their own. However, as has been said here they were hours away from losing him on a free to Celtic so they took what they could get.We were reportedly quoted £10m+ weren't we?
Is he though? Left centre half is a problem position for Liverpool but once everyone's fit I'd be amazed if Davies plays outside of the domestic cups. It's a smart move for him though as he can't really lose: do well and he'll nail down a position in one of the best teams in the world; fall slightly short and he'll get picked up by a top half PL side on a £100k/week contract; fall well short and he'll still get that move to Celtic.Good enough for the Pool. Even as cover !
We do seem to be good at spotting defensive players.
Not so much at t’other end.

Champions who have an injury list almost as long as ours and who have a potential issue with the home grown player rules (they're at 16 of 17 permitted at the moment; no point using up that last spot on a 7th choice centre half) but yes, our defensive recruitment is better than our attacking recruitment.Agreed.
Although I was merely pointing out that, in this instance, we appeared to be fishing in the same pond as the Champions !
Not sure they would have been fishing in the pond we got some of our strikers from !!
