I had the same initial reaction.
But then I thought “is £1m really eye watering?”
Don’t get me wrong, I dare say for me & thee it’s life changing.
But in footy these days, we’ve got access to a young player with great potential in a very critical season for us in a position we need cover - for just £1m.
Modern footy eh.
yes seems to be the modern way of loan transfers these days but if by chance he helps get us back up to the premier league the 1m plus bonus will have been good value

This million pound loan fee thats being chucked about without the option to buy seems a bit steep. Or am I living in the past and loan fees are this eye watering now?
It's nothing really. Imagine if we signed him, for the sake of argument he'd probably cost around 5m We might put him on a 3 or 4yr contract which is over 1m a year. So you could argue the loan fee is cheap although of course there's no sell on fee.

If it's a £1 million loan fee that's great business
If it's a £1 million loan fee plus wages that's great business as long as we expect a fully firing JOC back next season.
Where do these figures come from 1 million + his wages is not cheap if he,'s on 60 k a week.
He maybe under contract at pool but never got any game time,I think it's a good loan but! Not cheap if these figures are right

If the Liverpool negotiator is as good as people think ,a guy signed from Preston into Liverpool stiffs won't be on anywhere near 60k ,

Even better, so ~£1.08m in wages + £1m fee

Can't believe people would grumble at that for a £10-£15m CB

I think it is rare that a club getting a loan player offers to pay 100% of the wages. If you are going to do that you would rather sign a player permanently or have the option to buy.

Getting Davies in on loan for a season for around £2million is a bit of a steal. I'd like to have the option to buy him if we got promoted though.

He signed for Liverpool when they were desperate for defensive cover. He also signed at a time when his contract situation at Preston meant it would be a lot less expensive for Liverpool to sign him. He knew full well that his chances of playing and progressing his career at Liverpool were extremely slim and therefore he would have wanted compensating for potentially ruining his career, or at least setting it back several paces. I see no reason, given the circumstances, why £60k a week would’ve been a completely ridiculous salary. I think Liverpool would’ve been more than happy to pay him that as he’ll still be one of their lowest paid players.

Anyone spotted the dynamic duo down at the training ground?

It's time they were in the building

Tough, tough, game Wednesday night. We need all the help we can get

Wilder and Knill? Not sure they can play much these days.

Same impact as buying him for £5m on a five year deal. It's not that bad, really.

I get where you're coming from. Although, in the scenario you describe, you would at least own the asset and therefore be investing in the re-sale value (like a mortgage).

We're very much renting Ben Davies from Liverpool. If he performs well for us they can sell him on for £5-10m. Its win-win for them and exactly why they didn't include the "option to buy" clause.

I'm happy with the deal though.

What's everybody's interpretation of Nixon's tweet?
Once he signs his Manchester Utd contract they'll let him out again? Not sure I get it..
Sounds like Man U favour loaning him to us and once he signs his new deal they'll sanction it. That's how I read it at least.

Yeah.

I get MUFCs stance on that one too. If they send him out on a season-long loan and loves his time at United, he can effectively walk away from Old Trafford on a free at the end of the season.

If they tie him down on a contract and he loves his time here, we have to pay a sizeable fee for a contracted player

Sign a contract to protect our interest or we'll fuck up your progression by keeping you out the game a year.
If he's signs it then he's welcome to go on loan, if not then you're with the kids unless someone makes a perm offer.

I like Ben Davies. A cultured footballer, good speed and decent distribution. He'll do well for us. He does lack physicality though and by all accounts tends to get dominated in the air.
He’s great aerially. His aerial win %age last season is as good as Egan and Bash’s when they were in the championship

Why is anyone taking a blind bit of notice what that bell end Nixon is saying??

It’s infuriating reading comments that “Nixon says”…..he’s knows fuck all!!!! That’s more than evident with his latest on Rammers allegedly pushing for an Arsenal move when all who speak to him in person, including the lads father, have made it patently clear that isn’t the case!

It must really annoy the order of the game if clubs like ours do t bend over and take it, the truth is clearly not believable to them so they choose to make shit up instead.
