I believe it’s our highest league finish since 1975 when I bunked off school along with mates and some teachers to travel inter city to Birmingham to watch us draw 0-0 to finish 5th - surrounded by Birmingham Zulus on the terrace whilst the police looked on and let anything go

Trust me

between then and now there has mainly been heartbreak intermingled with false hope and genuine brilliance (Bassett) .

This management team is the best I have ever known and this season has provided an old blade with highs of the highest order / stunning

I know there is lots to do and who knows if we can repeat this - but whatever happens Thank you Chris and your wonderful team -

9th in 1992 also. And 6th in 1975. But agree with the sentiments!

It’s notable that the 1992 were polar opposites in terms of how the seasons went. In 1992, we had a very bad start, and we’re bottom with only two wins by the morning on 17th November (Chris Woods’ legs made that three by the afternoon). We were in and around the relegation zone for a lot of the season until a decent run hauled us out. We finished fairly strongly, lifting us up to 8th with two games to go, then lost to Leeds (to hand them the title) and Wimbledon (where we had Mervyn Day in goal - he of ‘a quality goal conceded’ fame) to drop down to 9th.

This season was very different, with us reaching as high as fifth place with not many games to go, and never looking in any danger of going down.
