Basham departing

The obvious memory of him is the winner vs Leeds which is what he'll be remembered for, but there were so many Bash moments which I loved.

Off the top of my head:

  • The pirouette vs Southampton in the League Cup
  • Dribbling past 3 Spurs players whilst he was on the floor in the FA Cup
  • The free kick vs Scunthorpe
  • Every time he was selected in midfield for a big match and being written off beforehand but coming up trumps
  • Being written off after promotion to the Championship, then the PL and being part of the 3 pistons which we've missed so much this season

But for me it was this:

Being 2nd favourite to get to the ball vs Bannan and steaming through to win the header which set the tone for the game and the attack for our first goal

It was obvious immediately his season was over a horrific injury but what upset me most was that was how a blades legend would go out.

Obviously not the most talented but he squeezed every last drop of his ability out and became a key part in our rise after not particularly standing out in league one pre Wilder!

A goal against Blackpool, at home, kop end. Adkins season.

Corner comes over low, Basham just does enough to block a Blackpool defender. The ball reaches Billy. Well you know the rest.

VAR may have disallowed it this season but it was a simple set piece.

(Shame we never spent any time on set pieces this season)

Best wishes Bash.

He reminds me a bit of Coutts, neither impressed in the position they came in to play at, changed positions and the rest is history, we all have our favourites and players we aren't bothered about but I can't imagine one blade who won't wish Bash all the very best, already looking forward to when he returns, the reception will be at the very highest level.

Depends how you interpret talent.🤔
Not necessarily all about feet. I'd argue he had a rare talent overlapping that many defenders don't 😉

I thought he was been offered a role on the coaching team? Absolutely a blades legend tho ⚔️
