Basham departing

Probably the most entertaining centre back we've ever had. Absolutely perfect fit for the RCB position. He defined the role all on his own. We'll never have anyone comparable

The horrendous luck all 3 of he, Coutts and JOC had to ruin/end their careers is beyond belief

It'll be good to see him on the pitch on Sunday, and hopefully there'll be a testimonial this summer too

It was obvious immediately his season was over a horrific injury but what upset me most was that was how a blades legend would go out.

Obviously not the most talented but he squeezed every last drop of his ability out and became a key part in our rise after not particularly standing out in league one pre Wilder!
So like Bob Booker. They will both be fondly remembered by me.

Sir Christopher of Basham. Imagine the likes of Balotelli with the attitude of Bash, what a pro, What a man, so gutted how it ended for him.

We will miss you Bash.

Will never forget him weaving through 3 or 4 Man City players at the Etihad.

This man just got what it was to be a Blade, in many ways his unique set of abilities made him a perfect fit for us, effort, commitment, desire etc will always be valued by us Blades and he had them in spades.

Part of one of the all time legendary Blades teams and will go down in history as part of an iconic ‘overlapping centre back’ pair with JO’C.

Sad day, but thanks for the memories and it’s one of the biggest GLTTLs of all time.

What a man and what a journey we’ve all been on together. A career at the club we’ll remember forever. Thank you, Bash. 👏

He’s been integral to everything in our club for the last 10 years and what a fantastic servant. Never ever let us down & always gave 100%. Yeah…. he may not have had the eye catching silky skills of some players, but I’d want him in my team every time. We are shockingly short of leaders on the pitch this season so that reminds us of how important players like Bash have been for us.

So yeah for me… having watched the Blades since 1971 … he is right up there as a Legend of our club.

Thanks for the memories Bash……..‘Basham’s arriving’…. at Leeds will never be forgotten.

A top player. More importantly, a top man.

They don't make many like him now in the game.

Be interesting to see what he wants to do next. Whatever it is, I wish him nothing but the best. Thanks Bash.

Loved watching him, always 100%. Some of his swerves totally dicking the opposition were a joy to watch. I wish we had a few ‘in their prime’ players like him, Leon,Billy,Coutts ,jack,Duffy, this season ,we would not have been in this shitshow. Good luck Chris, someone else will benefit from your style, personality and attitude somewhere.

As touched on by a number of people above, Basham is one of the few remaining of a dying breed and I think we would be fortunate to see many more, if any, come through the doors at Bramall Lane.

From the minute he came into the club, he understood the club and it's fanbase... he was proud to represent the club and is one of the few to hold old fashioned values, whilst conducting himself as a fine modern professional at the same time.

You don't get many players in modern football who you can call upon to play in any position, at any given point of a game. Not only would he do it, but he would do it to the best of his ability and leave everything out on the pitch.

I am devestated for his injury, but if there is any saving grace and it isn't much of one considering the circumstances... but at least he didn't have to endure some of the performances on the pitch during the second half of the season, because he wouldn't have liked it. The likes of Souza, Slimane and co aren't fit to lace his boots.... they don't hold the values, the character and the passion that he does. Basham doesn't know defeat and he doesn't roll over.......

June see him 10 years a blade and with that comes another dying breed... I don't think we will see many more blades (if any) at the club for that period of time. He may well be the last testimonial that we see at the club.... perhaps a fitting one would be an unorthodox joint testimonial with his good friend Billy Sharp. Let them both Captain and choose their own XI's and make it a fantastic, sell out day at BDTBL... one that two legends will remember and get the credit they deserve.

Sad day for the club! Cheers Bash!

'kinell fire. A 45 year old 6'5" bloke wi' a beard and I've just bought a signed photo of Chris Basham. Emotions do weird things.

Bash has been a proper Sheffield United player.
Maybe not the most technically gifted but gave everything when he played, whatever position he played in.
Those mazy runs from RCB that led to him being re-titled Bashambauer.
Popping up with the occasional goal - including ‘that’ one.
Getting stuck in & winning challenges all over the pitch.
Appreciating the fans & the support for him & the team being just a sound bloke in all situations.
Sad it’s ended how it has though whatever comes next for him, he leaves The Lane knowing he did his job brilliantly.
Cheers Bash, you absolute legend.

Mr Sheffield United. Pashun, commitment, desire and an understated technical ability...he sums this club up.

Fare well Bash, we'll see you again.

Great comments mate and some really generous tributes from this forum too. I cant be there on Sunday to pay tribute to Bash, Ollie and Furious but that's probably a good thing because I'd be really emotional saying farewell to three great players and servants of Sheffield United.

Sadly, today feels like the end of an era for the club but these three can walk away with their heads held high at what they've achieved in Sheffield. All have played their part in the success we've enjoyed over the last eight years.

Thank you for some amazing memories guys and from the bottom of my heart, I wish you all every success and happiness for the future.

You can bet your left bollock we wouldn’t be on just 16 points right now if that terrible, terrible injury never happened. Such a great bloke who loved to represent us, we were so lucky to have him. All the best Bash. ❤️
