Summer 1965, we had just signed Reece. who was to play in Barry's position. Barry played a few appearances in the 1965-66 season before moving to Carlisle

I have got some information regarding Barry Hartle from my mate in Stockport. Apparently Barry is still in the care home & it's his grandson !! who is appealing for "memories" of Barry's playing career on Where are they now? | footballers | Barry Hartle (where are they now .co.uk). Barry is suffering from dementia & does not communicate much about his playing career.
So come you old gits brush off the cobwebs & log in to give his grandson some background to his grandad's footballing past!
lovely skill by Barry in the opening minutes

Found a report of when he was the star in the League Cup win at Newcastle

Two goals for Barry in the 2-1 win at Villa in Sept 1962

An excellent reply for the original poster to see, and you have also made an old man very happy! When I saw that you had posted this video, I realised that my post 32 above was about to be seriously challenged, as it was based entirely on an almost 60-year-old memory with no other evidence to show that I was not confusing it with something totally different. I watched in fear, but it turns out that my report of something that happened 59 years ago was pretty good (modesty has never been my strong point!). It turns out that the ball hit Pace’s knee rather than his foot, but otherwise the goal is as described, and great improvisation from Pace and Hartle. And it turns out that Hodgy was exaggerating with Joe Shaw’s own goal!
