If they want Baldock, fine, like any player come up with a decent offer. Think their limit is around £5m, I would say he's more realistic value is £7m ish. Maybe if they pay most up front they'll have a better chance. I can't imagine Baldock pushing for the move but maybe he fancies it also, who knows. Personally as I said re Lundstram, I don't get why decent players playing in the second tier in England would join any Scottish side as I'd be looking to move to a PL club if there was to be a move.

Personally I actually prefer Bogle over Baldock, but Baldock is still a very good player and will probably start as first choice right back RWB. If Seriki is going out on loan also then we'll need to sign another for cover.

Also the Star saying Baldock is out of contract next summer is crap, he has one of the longest contracts at the club running till 2024!
 
He's an excellent right back at Prem level, still in the prime of his career. £8-12m.

Not up to much as a wing back.

Be a weird signing for Celtic who I'd think would be looking for attacking right backs / wing backs.

That’s the thing you get the impression that for this to make sense for United it would’ve had to have happened around the time of the warm weather camp. He’s in the plans now and there’s no way Celtic are capable of making us an offer we couldn’t refuse.

yes and i still think its 50/50 if we go 3 at the back or a 4 and if its a 4 baldock is better than bogle imo and in any case if were thinking of selling george seriki wouldnt be going out on loan

Yep spot on for me with seriki going out. I do wonder if bogle will be preferred as we’re still light on creative players but of course they could play together with bogle pushed further forward.

Last season it was only Baldock, Basham and Egan that performed at the required Premier League level for the entire season yet 50% of posters on here wouldn't pick Baldock and some would sell him for 7 or 8 million....... incredible! Who do these people think we are going to get for that sort of dosh? Bogle is good going forward but he's no full back if we play a 4. It's vital that we keep players like Furious George.
 
Baldock was better than most, but his poor crossing when we were only attacking up the right was a major problem. He wasn't that good defensively either. There's a reason he's linked with a move to Scotland rather than the Premier League.

Baldock is premier league quality in the first two thirds, in the final third he’s more like league 1 😂

People keep saying this, but how many games has he actually played at right back in a back four in the Premier League? Most of his games at right back in a four have been in League 1.

I wouldn't let him go for less than 8million either, but the idea he's an excellent PL right back in a four is more theory than fact, and it's easy to see why some would prefer the more attack minded Bogle.

I can see how we can play a back 4 apart from as a plan b tbh. If we wanted to start with it only Baldock can really play there and he was terrible last game in the position.

I think Egan and RND would be very comfortable in a 4 as they’ve got a proven track record in that set up just not with us. It’s the other centreback slot I’d have concerns over bash may or may not be able to do it but he’s at least a question mark as he’s not done it and then well I don’t think Robinson is good enough to be a starter whether it’s a 3 or a 4

I suspect a back 4 would currently look like:

Baldock Egan Robinson Stevens

Doesn't striker me as a defence of a team likely to get promoted.

Too many errors in there. Too slow. Not good enough in the air. If you parked two defensive midfielders in front of it then maybe.

You aware we are playing in the Championship this season.
That defence should be more than good enough for a top six finish.

Baldock and Egan were more than good at PL level. Baldock was rarely beaten defensively and other that being caught a couple of times over the middle neither was Egan.

stevens needs to get his form back but was strong for most of the first season. Robinson looked ok, but agree we need better as first choice.

it’s not a bad defence though - we need to bring a good CB in to start and one for cover. For me.
 
Can't loan out Seriki and let Baldock go. I doubt it's a position we will be looking to recruit in either so crazy to leave just Bogle to cover that position uncontested.

Baldock is great defensively as a RWB but when he's played RB or RCB he's struggled. It's a different game and he seems to make a lot of wrong decisions when someone is running at him.

Particularly since the latter has obvious weaknesses defensively .

For me , Bogle would be at his best as an attacking right side midfielder where I’m sure he would contribute a number of valuable goals and assists .

Potentially a very good player but needs to be in a role which utilities his strengths rather than highlighting his weaknesses .

yes agree in either a 433 or 442 baldock and bogle would be the best right sided duo in the championship imo and actually weve a manager now who is flexible and will try different formations depending on the circumstances
