These days the attendances figures are inaccurate because they automatically include season ticket holders or tickets given away for free.

I’ve seen Arsenal, West Ham, Southampton and eveni Brighton home games on tv showing 1000’s of empty seats but the official attendance is given as always given close to selling out.

Sunderland player Blackpool yesterday With many present saying there was 18 to 20,000 there but the official attendance was given as 30K

It does make you wonder where all of the money went to in those days. Grounds were packed but even the likes of Stanley Matthews were on the minimum wage.

Fairly sure it wasn’t £45 to get in, another £10 for a programme and some crisps.
