Without wanting to critique it too much...
If you take out the misconceptions, assumptions, inaccuracies and waffle, then there's not much left!

was surprised at that when reading the article thought it would be about the match or even more about this season as a whole instead of history of both clubs'Scunthorpe & Sheffield: United Yet Divided' made me think he'd talk about the gulf in quality despite the similar league positions.... but nope. Not even anything about the game!
Err, that is correct: attendance is singular."An attendance of almost 28,000 people was at Bramall Lane"
Im not much of a grammar pedant but for a journalist that's shocking and yes I agree he managed to say fuck all in 1000 words
Oh the shame, Ted"An attendance of almost 28,000 people was at Bramall Lane"

Agreed, cumbersome narrative but grammatically correct. It certainly doesn't sound right (I'm not disagreeing that it isn't) there was probably half a dozen better ways to write it.

really? fucking hell, you'll be telling me Mark the Pitsmore Pig is actually speaking perfect Queens English next. It sounds terrible, if that is correct then its a great case for why we dont need proper grammar init
"There was an attendance..." or
"There were an attendance..."
Your choice
I did qualify it with 'Im not much of a grammar pedant'

Ok I'll start a challenge, you're only allowed to post on the forum after you've had 2 pints of Pernod & Black whilst drinking a third and see who makes the fewest grammatical errors!Shocking. That should be "there were probably half a dozen better ways to write it."

(I've just got involved in one of those 'discussions' that's nowt to do with football)
Oh the shame, Ted
And now it's 10 mins gone, you can't edit it![]()

The 1980s wants its booze back.
Or is there some sort of alcoholic retro scene that I've missed?

Oh. I didn't realise that there was a date beyond which you were allowed to appreciate things you like.
When's the Barley Wine coming out?![]()
You know when people say, 'don't go there' I want to go there now.
Barley Wine, not tried it for 30 years and it was fking horrible, would it still be horrible today?
Oh. I didn't realise that there was a date beyond which you were allowed to appreciate things you like.
By the way 2010 wants it's joke back, it may even be older than that but I first saw that one on American Dad, it's been on numerous times and also been replicated on Family Guy and maybe even The Simpsons.
