Think he's trying to say that the third tier is where large and small clubs can meet and battle out on an equal footing. Well written but as you say no real point to it, it's a filler article when nothing much is happening.

Maybe he could have said 'Teams in League One in recent years:

Sheffield United
Sheffield Wednesday
Leeds United
Nottingham Forest
Leicester City
Southampton
Wolverhampton Wanderers
Norwich City

Stevenage
Fleetwood Town
Cheltenham Town
Burton Albion
Yeovil Town
Crawley Town

Crazy.'

'Scunthorpe & Sheffield: United Yet Divided' made me think he'd talk about the gulf in quality despite the similar league positions.... but nope. Not even anything about the game!

was surprised at that when reading the article thought it would be about the match or even more about this season as a whole instead of history of both clubs

"An attendance of almost 28,000 people was at Bramall Lane"

Im not much of a grammar pedant but for a journalist that's shocking and yes I agree he managed to say fuck all in 1000 words

Oh the shame, Ted

And now it's 10 mins gone, you can't edit it :p

I think it is a very good article. It shows how the two clubs have things in common and things far apart.

It sends a message to all football fans that history and past reputation, tradition, past success or failure, even current form and league position, counts for nothing on the day. Results have to be earned and the past, and even the present, is no predictor of outcomes of a game of football.

It should tell you that nothing can be taken for granted and that all fans feel the pain, but for different reasons perhaps, borne of different circumstances. And equally all fans share the hope of better things to come.

It puts into perspective, for me, that the result, on the day, is neither cause for celebration or despair. It is just one small step along the road to wherever we happen to be going next.

Err, that is correct: attendance is singular.

really? fucking hell, you'll be telling me Mark the Pitsmore Pig is actually speaking perfect Queens English next. It sounds terrible, if that is correct then its a great case for why we dont need proper grammar init

I did qualify it with 'Im not much of a grammar pedant ;)'

It certainly doesn't sound right (I'm not disagreeing that it isn't) there was probably half a dozen better ways to write it.

Shocking. That should be "there were probably half a dozen better ways to write it."

"There was an attendance..." or
"There were an attendance..."
Your choice ;)

As good a get out as could be managed. :)

Ok I'll start a challenge, you're only allowed to post on the forum after you've had 2 pints of Pernod & Black whilst drinking a third and see who makes the fewest grammatical errors!

(I've just got involved in one of those 'discussions' that's nowt to do with football :( )

The 1980s wants its booze back.

Or is there some sort of alcoholic retro scene that I've missed?

Yup, grammatically correct but the prose - rather like the rest of the article - is utter crap.

Oh. I didn't realise that there was a date beyond which you were allowed to appreciate things you like.
By the way 2010 wants it's joke back, it may even be older than that but I first saw that one on American Dad, it's been on numerous times and also been replicated on Family Guy and maybe even The Simpsons.

When's the Barley Wine coming out? ;)

You know when people say, 'don't go there' I want to go there now.
Barley Wine, not tried it for 30 years and it was fking horrible, would it still be horrible today?

I definitely think tastes change as you get older, so you never know ;)

Funny thing is, first time I tried Beer I didn't like it!
