Wilder doesn’t seem to have the fight in him anymore

I wonder if he would rather be collecting his wages sat at home and in the pub than been back for a third time.

Reminds me of me, when I’ve resigned from a job but have to work my notice

Out of the bottom 7, we have Wendy, Norwich and Pompey to play twice and we play Oxford, Blackburn and Swansea at the Lane in the New Year.

Ah, a run of "easy" games 😀

I remember in one of our horrendous spells in league one we had 3 home games in a short spell against Fleetwood And a couple of others and ended up with 1 point to show for it

People need to reset their ambitions for the next few years imo.
If we stay up there will be a huge re-build to stabilize as a mid table to play off chasing Championship team.
We will need to raise or save circa £40m through player sales or wage savings so it isn’t going to be pretty.

Go down and we could really be in the proverbial, so we need to do everything we can to stay up this year.
Roll on the January window.

It will be beginning of Feb before we get new players through the door! Hopefully we are not to far adrift.

Wilder had several quality players lined up, he got a phone call out of the blue to tell him he was fired, this is a very very poor league, we’d have been top 4, instead we’re in a mess, we’d won’t go down due to it being a poor league, none of this is of Wilders making..
I wish I shared your optimism, but we still make a simple game look very difficult. Nobody in this side really seems like they wants to take a risk, beat a man or take a shot, it all seems very safe to me. At this time we still look quite vulnerable and easy to play against, easy to defend against, easy to dispossess and to tradition through.
Yes, it’s still early in the season but I think what happens in our next game could define our awful season so far. If we win at Hillsborough the confidence we get from that game could give us the springboard we need. Alas if we lose, the shame could send us into a deeper nosedive and dare I say it…lose Wilder his job.

You do know we’re Sheffield United & not Man City? What manager do you realistically expect who is better than Wilder?

Our odds of relegation are shortening. Four to one is about the best you can get. This still seems a bit generous to me, given that we realistically need to win another 10 games.

Don’t even need to go back that far. We were top of the league by two points last season and had a run of ‘easy’ games before playing Burnley. That went to shit as well.

I struggle to see how there are still people that think this isn’t a relegation battle.

Football has left Wilder & Knill behind, kick & nettles & badge thumping isn’t enough anymore, and they’ve proven themselves incapable of capturing that lightening in a bottle from 2016.

Hopefully the board are starting planning for next season and moving on from what we’ve become.

Haha you had me till the last line, there has been barely any instance in our history that we have "long term planned" this board havent even interviewed for a manager yet and have made two appointments.

I voted yes. Because obviously we are.

At the moment.

I'm optimistic that we have the wherewithal to win the battle.

Maybe we might have a cup run?

We are at the moment.

The only way to remedy it now and find our way towards vague respectability is for us to put together a 5 game undefeated streak and see some sides like Oxford and Portsmouth go on a bad run.

On the rare occasion we put in a half decent performance (Blackburn second half), we follow it with utter dirge and that's the issue.

Get into January ahead of them and have some momentum building, alongside getting some better players in and shipping out some of the shite, we could salvage the season from where it started.

I say salvage job, 50 points with 2 games to go will be a decent rescue job following the hatchet job that the owners and Selles made during the summer.

Sadly I think this season will be a survival job at best. Got to find a way to stay up, and then hope that Wilder can work his magic next summer albeit on limited funds. Thankfully, I can see a lot of players moved on next summer like in 2024, and can hopefully build a team around the likes of Cooper, Peck and Arblaster. The recruitment was the biggest pile of dross, and it wasn't even cheap either!

Anyone offering money for peck should be taken very quickly

I think there's a player in there. Easy to forget that it was his first season in senior football last year and came out of it really well. Struggled this season admittedly, but he hasn't been helped as we've been without a capable midfield partner with Souza gone and Arblaster and Davies missing.

Every season somebody says “it’s a poor league”

A few teams pull away at the top? It’s a poor league

Relatively few points seperating the teams? It’s a poor league.

The overall quality of the league will always stay roughly the same relative to everything else.

Just above the bottom 7 in mid-table not forgetting that team who love us to bits and will give us a good reception on Boxing Day on TV - Wrexham.

If they win we will never hear the end of it splashed all over the doc.

A minus 15 goal difference says it all. Our defence is a big problem. Coupled with our attack being shite.
Cannon is more of a bunged up water pistol than an actual Cannon. Campbell is a confidence player with NO confidence. One is not ready yet. And Ings was a panic buy bought on a reputation two years out of date.
Everybody is hoping a Hamer back from injury and Arblaster who has been out a year is going to be like the arrival of the seventh cavalry! It won't happen.
The defence needs TWO championship quality centre backs. Who is available? Nobody I can think of.
Hamer will probably end up at Leeds in January. Arblaster will need careful handling and won't be anywhere near what we need for at least a dozen games.
The quality we need JUST TO SURVIVE will be too expensive for the board to buy in January.
We are three wins away from QPR who we failed to beat. They were poor. We were just as bad. Portsmouth and the Pigs are due next. I can see both of them beating this woeful shower we have now.
Take a deep breath, bite hard, the signs are we are going down.

Your messiah is back though

No Wilder did not get a call out of the blue he and knill knew in early April whatever league we would be in they were out

IF Arblaster comes back as he was before then we have a real good chance of pulling away from the bottom 3. Add Hamer into that for creativity and we should be fine - that's if Hamer is not sold which is a real possibility.

As a poster said above, focus on staying up by buying or loaning players that will keep us up, forget about any play off ambitions as they have gone. Rebuild in the summer and give Wilder one more attempt at promotion.
