Out of the bottom 7, we have Wendy, Norwich and Pompey to play twice and we play Oxford, Blackburn and Swansea at the Lane in the New Year.

I don’t know which of those we’d beat though, which is a problem.

We’re at a point where we need 9pts from QPR, Wendy and Portsmouth, and we already missed that target.

Any hope of survival rests on us winning games consistently, say 2 wins from every 3.

The evidence atm suggests we can barely win one.

Southampton, Ipswich and Coventry were the only games played where we should be struggling as a stable Championship side, but we’ve lost those AND games to teams around us, who’ve been nothing special let’s be honest.

We’re a bad team with a poor manager and knee jerk owners atm. That never ends well.

The idea of waiting til January, like CW is hinting at, is ludicrous. We could, and probably will be, well adrift by then.

Long shot but we can do it.
I'm going to say Wednesday and Portsmouth.

Our current average is 0.66pts per game to date. We have 31 games left.

Current rate equals 20.4pts from the remaining games.

Being fair and rounding up gives us 21pts, plus current 10pts equals us finishing the season with 31pts.

We’re at a point where even draws aren’t helping. We need 6pts from the next two or we’re out of it essentially.

Teams don’t lose over two thirds of their games and stay safe.

Woosh

Whilst the last two wins have been very welcome, both sides looked below average to me

We’ve won 4 games this season all of them currently in the bottom 7

I think we are a long way off being a top 6 side atm.

I’m hoping Jan changes will make us competitive against the challenging sides as well as the bottom sides

Despite 2 clean sheets , two 3-0 wins , and 6 points , we still go into this weekend game in a relegation position ,, so while things are looking better we are still in a relegation battle until we aren't

There were and are still so many things to work on but on the plus side the defence is starting to look more composed. We still are in a relegation battle by the very nature of where we are sat in the table but you only need 3 teams worse than us in the league to be safe and on that basis I think we will be ok

They are indeed but I’m nervous about the plaudits the defence has had in the last couple. In games where the opposition barely offered a thing…

That’s not to criticise, but just reserve a bit of judgement.

I think any team looking to be safe from relegation this season is going to need 53/54 points, unless 2 more drop off a cliff in the next few months.
We are still a good way behind the curve due to past results again teams we should have been picking up points from, but didn't.
Once down there it can take a long time to drag out of the danger zone unless an exceptional run is produced, usually,a good few threatened teams pull out above normal results in the last 10/12 games of the season and it becomes a real dog fight.

Exactly.

We have had a terrible start and sacked the manager responsible for 5 defeats from 5. The confidence in the players is visibly low, but hopefully we can pick that up over the next 3 games taking us into the International break.

To use your Middlesbrough analogy, Ipswich are still the bookies favourite for the title, despite being 10pts behind Middlesbrough.

The six favourites for the title are as follows:
  1. Ipswich - 17th (10 points behind 1st)
  2. Boro - 1st
  3. Coventry - 6th (16 points behind 1st)
  4. Birmingham - 8th (16 points behind 1st)
  5. Southampton - 19th (10 points behind 1st)
  6. West Brom - 7th (10 points behind 1st)
So of the 6 favourites, only 2 are currently in the top 6.

Compared with relegation favourites...

  1. Wednesday (2nd bottom)
  2. Oxford (5th bottom)
  3. Derby (3rd bottom)
  4. Portsmouth (12th place)
  5. Watford (4th bottom)
  6. QPR (9th place)
Only 2 of the 6 favourites to go down are OUTSIDE the bottom 6. United are in a totally false position.
Wow. When I wrote this, Coventry were 6th and 6pts off 1st.

They're now 1st and 13pts above 6th

That's a big swing in 11 games

After early & justified pessimism I now think we’ll survive, but without troubling the playoffs. After 2 good wins against weaker sides todays game against Leicester will be a better barometer of how we’re recovering.

A good win today, and I am starting to believe

Still very early days

Really important 3 points today in the context of the results from Oxford and Norwich. Well hopefully start to pull away but if we’d not won we’d have been back in the mire a bit.
