Are we Genuine Relegation Contenders?

Yes. The transfer window was absolutely shocking and has dropped us right in it. We need to scrap out enough points to give us a chance and then make the right signings in Jan. If the owners panic I fear for us. It reminds me of 2010/11, it has all the hallmarks. Many things aren't fixable short term. Dogs of war mentality needs adopting now.

I laughed off relegation shouts until yesterday evening 5pm. Until we sort out the inability we have of creating good goalscoring chances, we are in some real shit. I'd snatch your hand off for 21st now as sad as that sounds. Wilder has a big job on his hands now make no mistake about it.

We create nothing and can't/won't score goals

Not scoring goals leads to relegation.

Ergo, we are absolutely in a relegation battle right now.

I'll be more than happy if we get to January and we aren't in the bottom 3.

I'm obviously a bed wetter as I have voted yes.

Form this season and towards the end of last season shows we are.

I just cant see where the goals come from and as has already been mentioned above, other teams are picking up wins and we can't even pick a point up.

Hope im wrong, but I didnt see much fight at the end of last season and im not seeing any this season.

I was thinking when we re-appointed CW.
Has he ever been in a relegation battle and got out of one?

The defensive recruitment looks ok, midfield will be ok if Blaster & Davis come back and can stay fit, up front we are short, no way Wilder would have let Moore go without a replacement. We were hardly high scoring last season and we now have less options.

Already the January transfer window is going to be massive for us. For all the shit that’s been aimed at him we were crying out for the likes of Oli McBurnie yesterday. Throw in a couple of leaders as well. True, it’s early days but the current squad is light years away from the one that ended last season

There is a huge confidence issue in the squad but let's be clear, wilder can pretty much choose a side that is equal/the same as last season (I would say with the exception of missing Vini).

Confidence, a win, a bit of momentum and we should still be midtable.

Wilder has to work some magic to make it happen

Wilder and Hecky used to love a “fine margins” sound bite in interviews. There are no fine margins this season, just pure shite defending and nothing happening at the other end.

Couple that with a squad of thrown together individuals and minimal fight or mental fortitude and it’s going that way unless Wilder uses some magic to pull us back.

Plenty of points and games to get back to some semblance of respectability so there’s hope. But it would be very arrogant to assume that everything’s going to be fine.

Anyone can lose 6 on the bump - we did 3 in 8 days last season- but this set are not showing the basic appetite for hard work to make me think it's just a bad patch.

We've had 4 games this season where a single goal would have won a point. We have 0 points.

50 points from 40 games currently feels a long way away

Put undecided, however next Saturday is huge. Win and we are off and running, confidence will start to return. But lose and we are smack in trouble.

If we persist with this crap formation then possibly yes. Otherwise no.
Before yesterday’s game, Wilder said he’d pick a side that 30,000 Sheff U fans would pick. I thought that meant going to three at the back, which didn’t happen, am I the odd one out?

We are 5 points adrift from religation, of course we are in a relegation battle we certainly aren’t in a promotion battle even if we did get 92 points last season or we once lost 4-0 to pigs.

Best we say hope for is Wilder changes formation and we creep up to top of bottom third. He might think he’s the messiah and 50% of the fans might believe it but his reputation is wearing thin.

Not as confident as I was about fairly quickly moving up the table.

Not got enough goals in the team, and we didn't get many last season with more options, considering our lofty position.

Got to give it some time for Wilder and co to tackle the issues but does he still have it in him to deal with this scenario? What happens if we're still in the same or similar position after another 5 games?

My hope was he'd get a tune out of the squad enough to allow us to be close enough to the top 6 by the end of the year, to use January to bring in two or three to give us a chance in the second half of the season.

I didn't expect much yesterday but I was disappointed with what we got tbh.

We've got issues all over the pitch with players badly out of form or seemingly not putting 100% in, players never fit or fully fit, and some not good enough frankly.

I still don't think we'll go down if I'm pushed, but I think I've over-estimated the ability of the current squad.

Best hope is that Mee and Ings can contribute meaningfully, Davies can stay fit once back, and we find a formation that suddenly brings a spark and a goal threat.

Hardly a given to say the least 😕
If we lose another five games in a row I think the players will be chased out of Sheffield.

We are in a relegation battle, I do expect us to get out of it. I don't expect us to go on a dramatic charge for promotion. However I see this team improving, I don't see where that solidity comes from for a big run of back to back results. I think it will be very tense into the Xmas period at least.

Is this just a mini crisis, where business will resume as normal in the next few weeks now Wilder is back (i.e. we pick up points reliably and are generally hard to beat), or are we really in trouble.

I was hopeful leading up to the Charlton game, now I'm not so sure 😐
Yes. The moment the window closed and we hadn't signed a goalscorer.

We are 5 points adrift at the bottom of the championship last scoring on the 1st game of the season. We have been battered already this season, not creating anything of note in front of goal or really seemingly having a plan of getting the ball into the (lack of) attackers. Since April Wilder has picked up a possible 7 points (Cardiff,Stoke, Blackburn) out of a possible 24 including the Charlton game (not including the playoffs) we can’t afford to be risking that run rate as it is relegation form right there

Before yesterday’s game, Wilder said he’d pick a side that 30,000 Sheff U fans would pick. I thought that meant going to three at the back, which didn’t happen, am I the odd one out?
With hindsight he was obviously hinting at playing the same as when he was last here unfortunately. He did also talk about being adaptable etc so hopefully a change isn't completely off the table.

We had a leader in Mee sat on the bench, bags of Premier League experience and is probably wondering why now he bothered putting pen to paper.

Very similar to that season. I thought we were too good to go down then too.

There are no fighters in this team. When things are going well it's easy to keep going, when they start to turn you need strong mentalities to dig in and turn it around, we don't have those and so we are absolutely in a relegation fight and currently up shit creek without a paddle.

I have never seen such a despondent bunch of professional sportsmen. They clearly have the technical ability to get us out of this situation, sincerely hope Wilder finds some magic from somewhere to motivate them to battle and start showing it.
