I agree with Wilder. It's been my view for a long time that social media users shouldn't be anonymous.

(Edit: to the platforms, that is)

I cannot believe he had the audacity to blame everyone else for him losing his job. That alone says to me not only is he thick enough to genuinely believe the bile he spouts but he doesn’t understand why what he’s said is so wrong.
I saw the pic of him before I read the article and correctly guessed what he'd done. Maybe I'm prejudiced too. I hope he's never welcome at BDTBL again.

I can't see where I blame anyone, trying to look at it from a differing perspective and a alternate remedy.
Life has taught me stupid, moronic people are not worth listening too, so on social media switch them off or bar.
The alternative you offer seems naive to me, unfortunatly the behavior we are speaking of is part of being human, human nature, difficult to ledgislate against.
As regards punishment, don't listen, switch off, then the perpetrators waste there own time and energy, listening and picking up the baton fuels there egos.
If you believe I condone such behavior you are mistaken, I also dislike a blame culture which seems prevalent today.
turning a blind eye doesn't solve the problem though does it?

If your child was being bullied at school would you look them in the eye and say "ah well just try and ignore it"??

All the Social Media companies are getting away with murder, not nearly enough been done to monitor what's been posted online and there needs to be a lot more done by governments world wide to impose sanctions on above companies.
You can put VPN (Virtual Private Network) software on before you go online. Your original I.P address that links to your address will be hidden and it gives you another secret I.P address and you could be anywhere in the world. So I guess its hard for Facebook/ Twitter/Instagram to catch the culprits. Wilder touches on a interesting point when he mentions linking passports to accounts.

There’s plenty of personal abuse of players on here , not worthy of police investigations but not nice for the players and their families to read !

Completely agree. We just don't know what is being referred to and we probably don't have the right to know either.

Ah the old "one person misuses something therefore it should be banned" argument. Would you ban alcohol because some people misuse it?
The obvious difference is that more often than not alcohol misuse mainly affects the person who misuses it and even if it does affect others, those people know who the misuser is.
Whereas with social media, the perpetrators hide behind their anonymity. They wouldn't have the guts to stand in front of those they attack and say it to their face.

Would you want this site closed down because of some other idiot even though you use it, enjoy it and have done nothing wrong?
If Foxy and Linz were not so hot at banning those that continually cause offence then yes.
It would hardly be the end of the world.

I wouldnt necessarily say they need banning but they need significant overhaul and regulation. One thing I do not like about Twitter is that you can hide behind an avatar. Have a name that is nothing to do with you. Yes its linked to an email address but these days who doesnt have multiple email addresses? If the person had to have their real name and location as part of their profile then you watch the number of keyboard warriors comments drop off. Sadly, I think that probably contravenes GDPR.....

Placing your own name and address on the internet does not contravene GDPR. However what you would probably end up with is people going round to people's houses to sort someone out - or vandalise their property. Twitter could, however, demand personal details when signing up, which they then hold in a database. The problem is verifying the details and also maintaining the database in accordance with GDPR. They obviously would rather not have the extra work.

Whilst not knowing the logistics of how this happens, why cannot these quite privileged people switch off the conduit of the abuse/isolate themselves from it?
I find it churlish that they involve the police, they have better things to do, when there problem could be solved by themselves.
All the fuss, words don't hurt when you know they are coming from a retard, as previously stated the time to worry is when they come with a stick unless you have a bigger stick.
It'll be death/violent threats and/or racism or homophobia. (Unacceptable as a human and should be punished)

Not just saying "you're s****. (Unacceptable as a Blades fan towards your own players)

I notice Norwood had turned off comments on his Instagram page. This is a guy who was key to us getting to the "promised land" now receiving dogs abuse because of a few bad games.

McBurnie gets it too "McShit" or whatever, by all means be critical but do it in a constructive fashion.

Social media, not just in football but society in general is one of the worst things to happen to humanity.

(I am aware of the irony of posting this on a message board)

Does anyone actually think mcburnie gives a monkeys about being called mcshit?😂

Hes in the away end with Swansea fans giving wankers signs at the Cardiff fans, he knows what it's all about and he's not some delicate little snowflake... If he was a blades fan he'd probably be calling himself mcshit

I'm sure he doesn't mate, I don't find it offensive and I'm certainly no snowflake.

More a comment of the level of intellect of the people ranting about how shit our players are.

Quality example of victim blaming. Alternatively, why don’t the morons abusing them, y’know, not abuse them? If they do, they should be punished.
Maybe allow Internet providers to pass on IP addresses of abusers to police (or is that too easy to avoid?)

Social media and the internet in general has grown and developed far too quickly for society to keep control of it.

Quite frankly, I think it’s complete and total bollocks that Facebook, Twitter etc can absolve themselves of any blame when people post some of the shit they do, especially with the frequency of which it happens. I understand that the law allows them to do this, however these laws are patently now outdated.

You can mask an IP address pretty easily most commercial VPN’s will do that for you.

Some sites have VPN blockers on them don’t they? I know Netflix have now stopped you from being able to access Australian, US Netflix etc from the UK?

I’m sure for some people though whatever they do, it can be bypassed but it would be a start at least. It would be good to just see that they are actually making an effort to stop it happening rather than washing their hands of everything that happens on their platforms.

He’s a big lad and seems to give a bit of banter out but when it’s coming from supposedly your own fans maybe it’s different?

You expect it off the other teams fans. Cant imagine its as easy to ignore when its your own fans.

Maybe youre right though, I'd find it inspiring if i worked in an underperforming office, gave 100% to it, turned up sick and just got called shit, repeatedly by the customers (or whatever us fans are). Even better if they made me cute nicknames. Wouldnt affect me mentally at all.
