I think the fee is about right for where he is development wise and we’ll have a sell on clause.

Should we just give him what he wants wages wise to stay, I don’t think we’re in that position having lost parachute payments etc.

Something like this was bound to happen.

Purely football wise it’s downgraded the squad, no doubt there.

Let’s see how the squad looks in 6-7 weeks before we wet the bed

i dont get this, my player of the year last season. if it was to a PL club you understand, because there a pecking order but to a non parachute payment championship team is highly disappointing

A - significant fee arguably been 8 figures
B - how do Norwich have 10m minimum to spend on Andre Brooks that we dont

but i can only hope this is like david brooks or dominic Calvert lewin
The answer to B, is they've just got £20m for Sargent

Really good business this. We sell one our promising developing players who will get better and who has that special ability at 22 to provide a goal from nothing and is presumably one of our lower wages earners for in today's terms a fairly small amount,(a lot less than we shelled out for Brewster) to a rival team. The funds presumably will be passed to Wilder to wheel and deal and bring in some ageing pro with injury problems on a much bigger wage, or, even worse be used by our ten bob millionaire owners to service the club debt.
I shouldn't be surprised, I've been a Blade since 1960 and experienced many such days, Mick Jones, Birchenall, Salmons, Deane twice, Fjortoft Beattie etc, etc, and I'm not surprised just disappointed.
It also makes question even more whilst not being in the Wilder out camp the suitability of him to continue be in charge.

Wilder very much back in charge.

Kalvin Phillips coming in, Riedewald released.

Andre Brooks sold to Norwich.

Probably Seriki next.

Wilder wants his boys club .

Brooks put a post on Instagram recently referencing a lack of appreciation. It was quite clear what he was referring to, we saw it all last season.

It's not everyone's opinion, but we need to move to a DoF model or similar. We can't keep letting Wilder and his mates run all things football.

It feels a shame to me, this. It doesn't feel like the right time to sell Brooks & Seriki, they're progressing very well and one more season (probably) would've seen their value increase significantly.
The video showing Wilder greeting the players on his return to the Lane last season, said it all. The disappointment on Brook's face was plain to see. :(

Out of interest Soton what was the fee?

At least he takes forward steps unlike most of our other forward players. But never mind exciting players like Rodwell and Cannon to look forward to instead.
I hope that's an autoincorrect from Rothwell. If we are bringing Rodwell back then yes, we're truly fucked

I don't think that was Brooks that wrote that message... or someone has clearly told him what to say. It's the usual bs they have to say. It really insults the fans tbh when they are never truly honest when we all know somethings happened.

If you don't laugh you'd cry, I can see Seriki following him out of the door Wilder always was picking on them, always those two to blame if things went wrong. It will be full of flare in midfield next season for sure. I can see it now Wilders son-in-law and perfect Peck the master of the sideways and back pass ready to come on when Rothwell and Phillips are injured. Still Chong can play on the right Shackleton can be in too if not injured.

Good luck to Brooks I said last season he needed to move to progress something that was not going to happen under Wilder, Seriki needs to follow him, no point stopping at this club that has no ambition nor money by the looks of things.

I suspect there are a few fans who are having renewal remorse today. Me, I don't even get angry about it any more I'm just unfortunate to support a shit club who never win owt, a club with owners who are starting to look as bad as Mr Chansiri did for the pigs, owners that thick and clueless they brought back the busted flush Wilder.

Having caught up on this thread. Out of the blue springs to mind. He was one of those players last season that made an impact, sure consistency wasn’t there but as a young professional you sort of thought next season will be his breakthrough. I remember posting after the Mansfield game that he seemed to treat both Brooke’s and Seriki with disdain even though they featured for about 25 minutes and by that point the game was gone.

Seemingly not with us now. Wilder must have a plan, he certainly needs too because I can already hear the “selling Brooke’s was a mistake” comments, is this another example of stubbornness born from wilders ego, It’s in your court now Chris, big gamble.

I don't know why anyone is surprised. We all knew sales were inevitable this summer, to make up the shortfall in losing parachute payments.

It's frustrating to lose a talented young player, and to fucking Norwich, but we were hardly going to make the money needed from selling off the dross and the board probably don't care who pays as long as somone does.

At least two from Brooks, Seriki, Hamer and Peck were off. So expect another one of those, if not more.

At the same time, I think given the age, cost and potential of everyone you listed, most would surely have been hoping Hamer would have been first out of the door.

Stretch I agree we had to sell, but to a team that finished in the same ballpark is surprising. If peck had gone or goes to Brentford etc or Hamer Leeds fair. Same division makes a lot of difference, assuming the lad kicks on.

I do wonder if some of the wingers rumoured to come to us are a lot further along than thought.

But sales didn’t have to be quite so inevitable when you consider the amount of absolute wastage from last season.

If the club had any semblance of long term thinking or forward planning they’d have sat down last pre season, knowing it was the last year of parachute payments and maybe thought twice about the scattering approach to signing players.

We’re getting 8m for brooks apparently - is that about right? Maybe, maybe not. I’d have hoped for more but it’s not an insignificant fee - but then when you think we’ve spent so much on such shite as McGuinness, Matos, fucking Chong, and Tanganga the most expensive of the lot who whilst at least a decent enough championship payer massively disappointed. It makes 8m seem a small pittance.

You’re right that the sale was inevitable to some extent, but it shouldn’t have been, but the club has created this rod for its own back with the most short sighted and frankly grossly incompetent set of signings last year (and before that if we include Cannon)

Possibly mate, but I suppose it depends on offers coming in.

I agree it's frustrating mate. Norwich are rather annoying at the best of times and you just know they will be in the mix this season.

I’d had enough last season. Shit owners, Wilder in full arrogant my way or highway mode. All the things re Brookes and Seriki mentioned here. Didn’t want to renew but did in hope and for daughter. Now. Highly unlikely to bother using ticket. Wilder and crew are out of control. Old journeymen and his mates infesting the place and absentee owners floundering around.
