I don't disagree. But if we knew we needed 5 players, I find it silly to wait till the end. We should act early and bring in two or three players to support the new system.
Three that can do a job and get in now, and 2 top class we are chasing from a group of 6? Seems reasonable to me.

Should we just not bother then and just go for bang average?

We shouldn't bother chasing a £30m plus Man United international who is probably pissing his pants laughing at the thought of playing for us and go for someone realistic.....

Signing a teenager to shove into an attacking position seems a bit deckchairs on the Titanic to me. The entire midfield needs rebuilding, before that happens nothing will change.
True but he’s a piece of the solution still need a Vieira alternative and another midfielder hopefully garner. If they’d be willing to give us diallo then they should be willing to let us have garner

He'll see us as beneath him and toss it off
We’re really good at writing people off before they’ve even arrived! So if I read this right we lack ambition and the board are being tight with money if Diallo doesn’t come, if he does he’ll be a big time Charlie who’ll be a waste of a shirt, have I missed owt?

Someone seems convinced that Garner is going to Forest, but as ever nothing is confirmed until it's confirmed.

I'm sure Diallo would improve a good time, I'm just not sure chucking him into out dumpster fire helps anyone.

I know posters past and present like to point out that you don't need to make signings in order or need, but we really are leaving it late to get the entire midfield sorted and I suspect we'll run out of time.

That report of him to forest is just smoke until he signs a new deal at man United nothing will happens regarding garner to anybody.

Whilst diallo won’t come in and thrive with the squad as it is now he is a player capable of creating for himself unlike every other player at the club and as such could still be a standout in a poor side

Per Slav's comments we are looking at bringing in 5 players. Assuming Davies was one. That would leave four remaining players. The consensus is two midfielders and two wide/attacking players. We have 12 days left in the window. I have my concerns, I feel like we should have made some moves to address those hole earlier. That will be 6 games played and we have already dropped 8 points.

Sorry, just never understood the idea - you can only bring in quality late in the window mentality......
I would think one of those 5 would be a keeper.

youve hit the nail on the head there yogi in that last paragraph weve no players who can carry the ball and go past people weve had this problem for 18 months now and has never been addressed

I feel like we’ve never really had that in all of wilders tenure. That’s not a criticism as we created plenty of chances by manufacturing overloads. The issue with that though is it requires the team to be operating at the top of their game as a cohesive whole for it to function.

Now there’s a chance we’ll be disjointed for at least a month or two as a best case scenario so having match winners will be key whilst we find our feet.

What impressed me re Freeman and his cameo, he went past players on both sides, not just limited to his left, their right.

He looked something like the player he was at QPR last night in that short cameo if he can get back to that then great
I suspect as Osborn came on against Swansea, Slav doesnt see him as wide left or centre left, perhaps Saturday he will line up on tge right where he was last night

To be fair Bob I'd accept bang average because at the moment...actually delete that...for the last 12.months we've been bang shit....and our entire midfield and forward line is nowhere near bang average
Fair enough if that’s where your bar is set.
I wanted us to use loans this window and go for the top targets which have always been beyond us when playing at this level. Using the parachute payments with the clear target of promotion.

If we play 4-2-3-1 as is SJ's preferred system, we have nobody to play the wide roles.

GK
Baldock - Egan - Davies - Osborn (although i'd like to see RND)
Berge - Norwood
Winger* - McGoldrick - Winger*
Brewster

Let's say Norwood is replaced by Garner and one of the wingers is Diallo, then we're not far off are we.

He's been trying Brewster on the left. Whilst he seems wasted out there, if he can get used to the position, we could look like this:

Olsen
Baldock - Egan - Davies - RND
Berge - Garner
Diallo - McGoldrick - Brewster
McBurnie
Second team better but no Berge and no Didzy. Find an alternative even if youth team.

To get the true best from him he has to be allowed to float around finding pockets of space, linking play and isolating defenders. The to me suggests either being given free roam as a 10 or playing in a fluid front 3 where the two wide players interchange.

Too many are simply too comfortable, there isn't exactly any competition for places, no one is putting any pressure on anyone, obviously injuries didn't help especially last season, now the only genuine alternatives to most positions come from the U23s

Not sure Brewster and Burke have the nous to swap wings, which is currently our only option, not their fault, especially Brewster who isn't a winger

Burke doesn’t have the nous to outwit a particularly stupid duck. Brewster I dunno it may come it may not outwide it’s a new role he’ll have to learn. Diallo however.......

Thing is with Burke, we have seen it all before, especially at each end of the pitch, those blessed with pace rely on it, when they start to lose it, then it's time to learn a new trick or two, either read the game like Mcgrath or swap wings and research the Currie shuffle

He could well be the most physically gifted player to ever pull on the blades shirt in terms of his athleticism he just doesn’t have any of the other required elements to be a footballer not even close

To be honest he probably ripped through kids, youth and a variety of U18,23s teams simply because of his pace, and especially as a kid never been pressured to stay behind for extra training on dribbling, shooting or crossing,, there was an old story about Ray Graydon at Villa, staying behind every day, doing nothing but crossing the ball into the box from the wing
