How about taking each clubs remaining fixtures and attributing the same score as their previous meeting. Not ideal obviously, but seems fairer and at least based on previous performance between the same teams.
Not sure if this would benefit the Blades or how the table would look as I haven't worked it out.

Its just a mind fuck , Premier league have announced there is another meeting on Thursday to try and sort out what to do !

Average points from the previous 28/29 games. Would give us 15 extra points and we finish 6th.

correct Addison, i thought we only drew at Everton

That was our smash and grab 2-0 win.

Heard on the radio 1 hour ago that scientists have already found a cure.
Its currently being tested on mice and has been successful to date, then they test it on monkeys then test it on volunteer humans.
They said a vaccine could be available as early as July 20.

That’s a totally illogical suggestion isn’t it? What’s the rationale for doing that?

Don’t wish to be too tough on you as a new member, but that’s probably one of the most stupid suggestions I’ve ever seen on here!

If it’s not possible to complete the season’s games then a league table has to be produced based on total points divided by total games played so far. And that is taken as final. It’s not perfect but it would bring closure, based on what’s actually happened so far and not introducing speculation about what might happen.

We all want to see this season completed but that would be ridiculous.

That means it would be too late for the 2020/21 season to start and therefore wouldn't ever exist, which means we'd all have to wait until the following August for 2021/22 season to start if the current one finished this October.

Season needs to pick up where it left off, if it takes until October ( for example) to finish it , so be it.

It's always the mice first, isn't it? It pisses me off that mice are more important than us. Squeeky little fuckers.

All attempts to finish the season must be exhausted.

Football is put into perspective by this situation but life will go on as will football. Based on expert opinion we may not be over the peak until June.

I would like to see all cups scrapped even considering our prospects.

The leagues could be completed in 6 weeks at the most. Give the players time off now or in a month. Bring them back in June for a mini pre-season and play out the season in July/August.

New season starts later in September with at least 1 cup scrapped.

I appreciate there are logistical and contractual issues around that but I'm yet to hear of a fair or reasonable option if calling the season null and void.

I appreciate the situation may get much worse than expected and we'll be left with no choice but starting again seems unfair for the teams achieving this year. Having 5 relegated next season doesn't feel right to me either.

A lot depends when it is safe to restart games. It could be months. If it is then one option could be to complete this one and then just do away with the 20/21 season altogether. Cancelling this season now would mire the whole football world in a sea of litigation which would effectively stop next season anyway

Mice ((like all small animals) have a short life-span and so are better to obse issue's that may only be observed after a lifetime of drug use.
So we can observe several generations of a treated mouse population in a reasonable human timescale
Tough on the little buggers - but blame evolution for that.
Fruit flies have even shorter lives but their metabolism is too different from humans.

That’s a point I’ve started to wonder, why is there such desperation to start the new season on time? Surely it’s easier to re-arrange a season that’s not even started than mess around with the one that’s almost finished.

I think some of these suggestions are coming from completely the wrong angle. If it means having a different structure for next season, it’s got to be less controversial if all teams have agreed to it rather than relegating teams on the basis of a cobbled together Duckworth Lewis method.

The major issue is that clubs agree to the structure and laws before the season starts. That’s the exact reason we can only loosely change the guidelines regarding VAR. If the league starts basing the final standings on averages and altering the structure mid way through the season, the EPL and EFL are leaving themselves wide open to law suits from all angles.

Yeah, thanks mate. Erm, how can I put this... I wasn't being serious. ;) :D

Was going to say something similar. We can push the start of next season back as far as we want. Then the season after and so on until it's back to what we have today. There may be issues with player contracts but that's a problem for the clubs to deal with.
Of course, next year someone could get a bad cold and we may need to close Europe down again.

The thing is because it’s so far widespread, everyone should be open to new legislation.

We also have to accommodate the winter World Cup in 2022, so there should already be planning in place for altering the structure anyway. All this declaring the season null and void is a complete cop out

Scrap Euro 2020 altogether. Finish this season even if it takes until September/October. It cant just be stopped and left. Unless the EFL still deduct that lot enough points to relegate them. Then its fine.

Just posted this on another thread that was suggesting a pools panel:-

These days there are a lot more sophisticated ways to predict results than a pools panel of biased ex pros and supposed experts. Also, a simple extrapolation of points ignores the actual opposition.

As has been said you really need to take into account the difficulty of the remaining fixtures that each team faces. A simple algorithm that analysed home and away form against the rank of the opposition could easily run through the rest of the season. It would never be right of course - but it would at least be totally objective and based on a set of agreed assumptions.

Unfortunately, the decision will actually be taken by a group who each have their own agenda, which means that the decision won’t be the most sensible one but the one that gives a bad outcome for the smallest number of people. Democracy is not always the answer!

Footballwebpages.co.uk has a very simple model which forecasts us finishing 5th. Pigs are forecast 16th but only 9 points above the drop - so a decent deduction would then see them down!
