If agree, but personally think the club banning them from now till the end of the season would emphasise the message that we dont tolerate this. The club will have acted proportionately and they can acknowledge that these fans were shouted down very quickly by many Blades and we move on. It's certainly a lot more of a positive story than the field day we're giving all the local press currently.
No one gets feathered and tarred, the fans involved might feel a little hard done to but hopefully will have learnt that they have to take responsibility for their actions and the club won't make excuses for them.
As with Ched, the club just seem slow and like they are only reacting because the press make them.

I would be interested to know why Mr Mohammed ,complained to Sheffield United ,and after only 24 hours complained to the FA and then gave his name and address to the press while filing another complaint ? It is not the way I would go about things if I felt I was insulted .And after 40 odd years of going to the Lane this is the first time he has heard a chant like this why is he suddenly insulted ,why didn't he go to the nearest steward or police office as there are plenty in the South stand.
My own view is that he has done more harm than good regarding racial harmony. This had been dealt with by the other fans on the Kop and was not heard again.

It was a misguided chant, on the fringes of interpretation. Definitely more 'Mind Your Language' than 'EDL'. over and done with in a flash. We shouldn't even be talking about it.

I heard this sang on the Kop once (you have reminded me) and a fellow Blade stood up and turned to face the singers (for obvious reasons) and the racist minority were immediately drowned out by a rendition of "And E;s a Blade and E's a Blade". Me and Mrs HB joined in.

What you describe here is precisely what happened to me when we played at Anfield in April 1994 (we won 2-1, Flo got both goals for us). Was that the game you were thinking of by any chance (assuming you were there of course)? If it was, then the Blade who stood up was me.

There were chants around me of "I'd rather be a paki than a pig". Those that were there and in that vicinity would've heard it clear as day. Being of Pakistani origin, this made me feel rather uncomfortable, to put it mildly. I then stood up to make my presence known and turned to face where most of the chants came from. There then followed some cheers and a round of "He's a Blade & He's a Blade".

Apart from that, it was a cracking day.

My memory sometimes fails me, but Mrs HB has confirmed it was definitely on the Kop . We were both at that match at Anfield as well and can't remember that happening, but my senses may have been somewhat dulled.

Sadly, it's not the first time it's happened with Bradford. I remember a boxing day game at their place a few years back (around 2003/04 maybe?) we won 2-1 on a freezing cold day and there were disappointing chants of "small town in Asia" that day. I don't think it's a case of our fans being more or less racist than others. Just that there are uneducated cretins attending football matches.

A few months earlier in an interview with Gary Armstrong for Flashing Blade he said that he would go berserk after scoring his first goal for us and that the ref would probably have to send him off for having a w*nk in the middle of the pitch. He didnt have the w*nk after scoring his goal against Bradford

I recall one article about our fans standing with BNP in Barnsley prior to a game, and the shame he felt.

Throughout the eighties (when I had a season ticket), you could guarantee that when any opposition black player got the ball there would be monkey noises coming from the Kop. Being a terribly politically aware young man, I was acutely embarrassed by this, but was not about to take on any of the many casual racists who frequented the Lane at that time. The last time I remember the monkey noises was in Sept 88 when Bristol Rovers' Devon White was the victim. That was as the Deane and Agana era was getting going and I suspect their heroics did a lot to convince people that abusing black players on account of their ethnic origin was perhaps not the best way to encourage our black star strikers.

United were nothing particular evil by the way. It happened everywhere then. We have indeed moved on.

We used to have a few black lads knock around with us late 70s early 80s sound when we stood on the John St West , Parkgate Blades started one match with that monkey chanting wasnt long before it kicked off with them.
