So if you complain about disgraceful behaviour from your own fans, you should hang your head and it doesn't make you a Blade?

What if someone gets assaulted, or sexually abused in the stand? Should we keep quiet about that as well because we're all Blades? What if he was Asian and he was offended? Is he allowed to complain? Anyone should be allowed to complain if they want. I don't think they need you to decide whether they're a Blade or not.

That said, I never complain, but not because I don't have the right, I just forget about it.

When we played County away and I saw some Blade singing "We're Sheff United, we do what we want" before throwing a bottle of Budweiser at a bus.

Sometimes idiots go to football matches.

Overreaction Alert!

The obvious reaction to a complaint about everyone being hyper-offended is: are you suggesting that no-one ought to be even slightly offended, ever, about anything?

I was offended when we lost 4-2 to Shrewsbury. Like others have said though: this isn't primarily about being caused offence, personally or for others. It's about what's right & wrong. Football, as a community, has decided to wipe racism out within football - something supported by the vast majority of fans, players, officials, clubs, etc & something that is, by & large, succeeding. If that's what's meant by politically correct, or big brother, or mass control, then sign me up for all three.

Hear, hear. Of course he could have been a Wednesdayite but Radio Sheffield would have been too busy stirring the shit (as they endlessly did with Ched) to verify the source. I remember when Toby 'Laugh? I nearly did' Foster had an entire programme vilifying the Prince and his country's human rights record. Of course, Chansiri's Thailand wasn't the subject of such scrutiny.

Unfortunately the use of a racist word is racist, whether used with racist intent or not mate. There could be an argument that if it was ISIS (which it appears to have been) it may not be a racist word but given the history of songs aimed at Bradford fans over the years, I'd guess that those singing it were linking ISIS with the Asian community and, therefore, I think it becomes racist. This is just how I see it which doesn't mean it's right of course.

The words were clearly used to demonstrate prejudice and bigotry regardless of the semantics or racist/islamaphobic etc.

Normalisation of racism and/or islamaphobia only serves to add fuel to the fire of the "them and us" divide that is opening. Tarring all Muslims with the brush of Isis is exactly what Isis want. This provokes hatred between muslims and westerners/whites/Christians/athiests/others. En masse hatred being promoted on either side of a divide that ought not to exist is abhorrent.

And that's the way this should have been dealt with ,it was a pathetic little chant ,by pathetic little people that lasted seconds before right minded people showed them right. That should have been the end of ,over ,but now 20000 football supporters are being tarred with being racist ,and outraged of Uxbridge think Sheffield is full of EDL who still say Pakis. What a fucking fuss over nothing.

Where's this allegation of monkey chants come from? Never heard that at any United match ever. Is he referring to "Cooooooooooooooooooutts!" by any chance which was used several times as Paul Coutts, a Sheffield United player, put in his best performance for the club?
 
A group of about 10 fans, singing an offensive chant, immediately told to shut up by most of the fans around them, which they did.

Everyone who wants to be offended (even if they heard fuck all), be offended.
Everyone who doesn't want to be offended (even if they heard fuck all), don't be offended.

Can we concentrate on Posh on Saturday and then ManUre the following weekend?

Seems to me this is more about your political views than the facts of the incident itself. Talk about over-egging it.

The Club of course have been slated by the BBC and the blade who made the compalint for not responding to the complaint immediately.......I work in local government (obviously we're as PC as they come) but we have a set timesecale to respond to compalints like no doubt the BBC does and I bet its not within 24 hours of the complaint, we only do that for racist behaviour if its directed at the complainant not someone who has compalined thinkign he heard racist chanting - the blade compalinign wasn't sure what was chanted!
Isn't it time the Club got rid of BBC Radio Sheffield as they are behind the vast majority of news items that slate us as a Club..............perhaps Football Heaven and the news Editor at BBC Radio Sheffield should join this forum and join a number of other Blades knockers!

Personally, we should be working to identify IF people were chanting/ singing racist (yes, a town full of ISIS suggest racist type chanting) songs and getting them banned from our club, not Radio Sheffield for bringing it up.

If it shames people into reporting these idiots then all the better.

There was no "Paki" chants. A brief chant about ISIS which we can debate forever but in my view wasn't racist. As for the so called Blade who made a formal complaint, hang your head in shame.

Probably unhappy that we tried to steal Parkinson last summer. To be fair, I was pretty unhappy we tried to steal Parkinson from them last summer too.
 
So the Bradford chairman now says heard 'Monkey Chants'. Wow, that escalated quickly. Be interesting to know if he reported it to the proper authorities at the time.

P.S. Agree with you - can't think of any other possible explanation for these alleged "monkey chants". Just shows why this needs to be investigated properly (as I believe the club will do) rather than just jumped into.

I'd say my own political views are relevant but I'd struggle to see any legitimate view that thought it was OK. My political views are pretty much anti-extremism. That's about it. I do worry about a groundswell of racial hatred given what's going on in the world but that doesn't detract from the abhorrence of the behaviour in question.

Happy for it to be moved elsewhere Rodley but it is related to us because of the fact that it was reported about our fans, at our match, at our ground. As for the question I asked, I would just like to understand the point because I didn't get it - I'm not looking for a political debate.

Personally I think what happened is wrong - I'm not offended by it, it's just wrong to be racist as it is sexist. However, I agree with an earlier point made that it was a pathetic little chant, made by a very small number of pathetic little people who were told to stop by the majority. This is how it should have been reported but the BBC wouldn't want facts to get in the way of a story.

He didn't say that. He said something like "I thought we'd gone beyond things like that and monkey chants". Not that he heard them at our game.
 
I've heard various distasteful chanting in my time following the Blades but I have to say I'd be absolutely staggered if there was any 'monkey chanting' went on.

I'd suggest that bit was misheard.

Good job he didn't see those guys in KuKlux clan outfits in the Westfield corner. What a load of shit ,as Wombwell says it was probably the Coutts chant ,but shows people hear what they want to hear ,and biased radio stations and media broadcast any bollocks in their desperation for 'news'.

Well, I'm with my fellow Blade, Ramon Mohamed, on this one - as, I imagine, the vast majority of Blades will be, discussions about "political correctness" & the local media notwithstanding.
As he says: "...this is a wider problem than Sheffield United. It goes on elsewhere and it’s still a problem that need tackling.”

Less easy to agree/sympathise with is Mark Lawn with his stupid & lazy assumption that "monkey chants" were being made too. If you're going to make a serious allegation, at least have some firm footing for it. Amazing what bitterness about seeing your team outclassed will make you say & do.

How could you possibly debate that an almost exclusively white crowd of people chanting something that highlights the racial demographic of another group (or the city they come from, in this instance) and intended to antagonise, wasn't racist?

Edit: I realised that sounds like I'm saying a "crowd" was singing this, when it was clearly a few idiots. I was making a wider point about how this couldn't be perceived in any other way (that I can see of).
